In descriptive statistics, a quartile is an each of four equal groups, representing one fourth of the distributed sampled population. It is a type of quantile.
Definitions

• first quartile (designated Q1) = lower quartile = cuts off lowest 25% of data = 25th percentile
• second quartile (designated Q2) = median = cuts data set in half = 50th percentile
• third quartile (designated Q3) = upper quartile = cuts off highest 25% of data, or lowest 75% = 75th percentile

sigh... Every quartile is a quantile. But not every quantile is a quartile....
So when talking about the 25th percentile, the 1st quartile is the right term, not the 1st quantile...

这里说的是University of Washington at Seattle的CS系，都说他家的申请截止早，但是貌似CS专业还是12月15日，官网上明确指出要ignore其他研究生院的11月1日的规定。而且其他专业的11月1日的Deadline也只是官方成绩单 ...

１１／１的截止日期，很多专业，的确可以无视这个规定。
