PersonalStatement
Since high school I have found it mostenjoyable to take my knowledge into use. Therefore I’d like to learn about themechanics of motions and chose physics as my major and math my second major.When I was introduced to deeper and more specialized underground study, Istarted to find condensed matter physics, especially photonic and electronicfield, a perfect stage for both theories and applications. In addition, I wasinspired by my seniors and professors to pursue my goal as a researcher in thisfield.
After adaptation to the college andacquirement for basic knowledge during the first year of undergraduate studies,I decided to fulfill my extracurricular experience. I was proposed as the classpresident and then won the election in the class meeting. From then on Iadministrated class affairs and assisted my college faculty. Besides I personallyadded birthdays of all my classmates to my calendar to make a reminder andevery term an outing was organized. My work was endorsed by my classmates.Specifically, I got well with my class assistant and he, as a PH.D student inthe Laboratory of Laser and Plasmon in my University, helped me studyelectrodynamics in advance. Near the end of the second year he introduced me toProf. Y and Prof. Y’s new design to replace a polarizer in liquidcrystal display with a metallic grating was very attractive to me because ofits high efficiency. Afterwards I introduced myself to Prof. Ye for someresearch on metallic gratings.
Over there at first I was trained tofabricate some gratings with certain periods using laser interferencelithography. Theoretical mechanics for this process was easy but thefabrication progress was not automated and I should find out the properexposure time for myself. Especially the final step- etching the exposed samplenipped by a clamp in NaOH solution- needed to be as fast as possible. Failurearrived repeatedly and I started to realize the difficulty to turn a theoryinto use. In order for faster action, I tried to use my toothbrush and a cup toimitate the clamp and beaker in my dorm. After a few days’ practice I succeededin stabilizing the efficiency of fabrication. Afterwards I was assigned to readpapers about surface plasmon resonance and waveguide theory and began to dosome measurement along with simulations. Although spectra measurement tookquite a long time and through practicing my partner and I reduced the time requiredfor a series of data by half. Two months later, I was given a topic about atwo-dimensional gratings. After spectra measurement and analysis for thephenomena, I submitted the summery to International Photonics andOptoElectronics Meetings as a poster and got accepted.
This meeting offered me valuableexperience to see the work of others and more importantly, to review my ownwork. Apart from listening to several reports by A, B, etc., what impressed methe most was on the second day when I was there introducing my work topassengers. A teacher from Central South University found it interesting to seean undergraduate student here and had a chat with me. After my introduction onmy work and several questions, he asked about the highlight in my work andadvised me to emphasize it because that’s what made the work value. In fact atthat time I organized my poster like a report for an experiment rather that apaper. Another thing happened during the oral presentation of my workmate. Anotherthing happened with an oral presentation by my workmate. As an invited guest,Prof. Jiangfang Wang from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, raised aquestion why the peak in the transmission spectra excited by surface plasmonresonance is asymmetric. This question was entirely unexpected. Although thisquestion focused on a non-essential point, we found it hard to answer. Evenafter the whole necessary training from fabrication to simulations, we stilllacked an entire understanding of this field. We authors frequently ignore somepoints in the paper unless we discuss with others.
Back from the meeting, I start to analyzethe sample comprehensively by both simulations and theories. Here came aproblem that the simulated results partially disagree with the simulations. Atfirst we tried to make an explanation by Fabry-Perot cavity or nanowirescattering but failed. The condition was improved then when we carefullycharacterized the sample. Since the two-dimensional grating was fabricated by atwo-step laser interference lithography, the slit depths of two steps are differentand that was the reason for the aforementioned discrepancy, Due to a newthree-dimensional model the simulated results agreed well with themeasurements. This was a fundamental idea of my paper, now submitted to Optics Express and under review.
From the meeting and the process of accomplishingthe paper, I relatively understood the lifestyle of researchers but still lacksome knowledge except for the gratings in this field. As a result I had betteraccumulate more experience rather than hurriedly write another paper. At thattime I had learnt the course “condensed matter physics” taught by Prof.L, therefore decision was made to do more practice in his group and toprepare my graduation design there from them on.
A PH.D degree in this field is my ulteriorpurpose as this field matches my interest and I want to discuss more with otherspecialists to improve my own skills in order to make more achievement. ThePH.D program of XXX 这段准备单独写一些东西

3.后面针对各个学校的phd项目多写一点吧,具体到哪些教授的研究方向你感兴趣
. 4.语言还需润色

确实感到流水账非常严重。
语言润色这块我尽量找写英语专业的同学帮帮忙。

不知能否问一下“思考过程”,是指的是“发现问题—提出想法—解决—进一步(如有)”的流程,还是指的专注于自己“如何分析并提出新的想法”?

我觉得关键在于你是怎么通过阅读文献、咨询导师等方式,结合自己的分析而提出想法这一步,着重展现你的创造性和解决问题的能力。发现问题和解决的结果的步骤可以写稍微简略一点(但也不能不写)。

关于这点我想稍微问问,我现实中和第一位导师之间,都是我发觉问题之后和他说,然后他不认可,然后我就随他去了,几天后他又和我说问题应该这么解决,然后我发觉就是我当初提的,又不好意思拆穿他。这也是我后来换导师的一个原因。

在文中表述的时候是否还是写成和谐的讨论分析呢?  因为ps中写老师的不足太不恰当了。
