Dr. Kyle Juretus is an Assistant Professor in Computer Engineering at Villanova University. Dr. Juretus did his undergraduate and PhD studies at Drexel University. He was an NDSEG fellow during his PhD studies and received the best thesis award in the electrical and computer engineering department. He also worked at Synopsys, an electronic design automation (EDA) company, where he worked on reducing the runtime of automating very large-scale integration (VLSI) system design.
Dr. Juretus' research aims to create the next generation of VLSI integrated circuits (ICs) and automation tools for creating such circuits. His current research projects involve incorporating security as a design objective within ICs and utilizing machine learning to assist the automation process for designing ICs. He is hiring a PhD student to assist in these areas of research.
The projects you will be helping develop when starting as a PhD student include the design of a secure and fast means of obfuscating a circuit. The goal of this project is to be able to provide an IC design to an untrusted third party and not have them be able to reverse engineer the IC. A successful implementation leaks no information regarding the correct design within the modified structure of the obfuscated IC. Additionally, research will be performed into how the obfuscation circuitry can be applied to a secure CPU design, with the goal of preventing certain classes of malicious software attacks, such as buffer overflow attacks. The PhD position includes compensation in the form of a full tuition waiver, as well as a monthly stiped. More details regarding the qualifications and benefits are provided below.
Position Details:
• Start Date: 01/2022 or 08/2022
• Stipend: Approximately $2,339/month for 4 years
• Tuition Waiver: 15 credits/year
Qualifications:
• A bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited or equivalent institution in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science
• Knowledge of VLSI and CMOS design
• Strong coding skills (Python/C++/C)
