civilEng 结构工程求比较

  先说说自己的理解与疑问，也不知道对不对，向大家讨教：  1.CMU专排最高，但MS项目都说比较水，而且AIS给我的感觉与结构工程还是有很大区别的
  2. usc和uw-seattle的MS项目到底怎么样？针对这两所学校我在网上能找到的信息较少
      USC的专业排名29，有人说它是广发AD的学校，所以担心它的MS项目会比较水。但地里也有人说它的课程还是可以的，也有些大牛。而且usnews的专业排名评价的是phd的，29的专排和MS有多大的影响？

      uw-seattle专排在15左右，我录的应该是research。现在对它的了解更少，所以和usc也不好比较，向大家请教。
  3.在LA和Seattle找工作的问题？虽然土木党基本考虑回国工作了，但听说西雅图那跨国公司多，有一定机会？

我现在对于自己是不是research 有点疑惑了。。。。看了地里其他uw录取的，感觉自己好像是PMP。。。。

之所以糊里糊涂的是因为录取的邮件里面没明确说我是research还是professional。
   
我当时申请的时候选的是research，但学校网站上有这么一句话：Research track is intended for students interested in participating in research, or continuing on to a PhD.  A student who applies to the research track but for whom insufficient research funding is available is automatically considered for admission to the Professional Master’s Program.
所以我可能被自动降为professional呢。

邮件里面虽然没明说，但出现了两个老师的名字。
第一个：邮件的第三段 At this time, departmental funding is not available to support your studies. Funding in the form of a teaching or research assistantship may become available at a later date; however, funding is limited and funding decisions are made on a case-by-case basis with input from faculty. If you are interested in being considered for funding at a later date, please contact Prof. XXX这个是结构系里的老师
第二个在邮件的末尾。If you have any questions regarding the graduate program, please contact the Graduate Program Advisor, Jennifer Ross 这个老师是负责professional的项目的。

综上，对于我是research还是professional非常的纠结。。。。

今天看到UW-seattle的回信，意思大概说是先accept我家，然后再找老师做research写thesis，至于你找不找的到，也就不一定了。如果找不到的话，就是non-thesis track。
  另附小米的回信：
You were admitted to the non-thesis track. Professor Laura Lowes was mentioned in your offer letter to contact about opportunities that may come up for funding in the future once you’ve accepted and started in the program. I can’t guarantee that Professor Laura Lowes will be your faculty advisor unless you request it and we have received her approval to become your faculty advisor. The faculty advisors are usually assigned to students sometime in late august.

If you accept admission with the non-thesis track and if you are able to secure funding in the future and have a faculty member who is willing to support you, then it would be possible to be switched to the thesis track.

If you were on the thesis track and ran out of funding to support your studies, it would be in your best interest to be switched to the non-thesis track as you would be paying a fee/credit and would not be charged the non-resident tuition rate.
