I am an international student with STEM degree, and I paid all my tution with family fund. One major reason I chose to purpuse high education in United States rather than other countries, is the OPT extension. . .и

With the original rule on STEM OPT, I will gain big advantage to purpuse my career in my home country after more than 2 years of practical training. Now I graduated, and will lose my chance of two year practice training under current condition. -baidu 1point3acres

If there was no OPT extension, I would surely have considered other countries with better OPT policies for my further education. . Waral dи,

Without OPT extension policy, American education will surely much less appealing for international students. This will be a loss for United States.

1. I want to say all those americans that hate and sacred of foreigners might take their jobs. Do you forget that the very foundation of this nation, freedom? How can you have the right to work while others can't?  This is just another form of racialism.

.--2. What makes the USA stand on the top of world, become the greatest country in world? People, people with talent and determine to hard work. If you look in the past history,  America always benefit from the new blood fill in the county. Since when America turns to reject those people who are more than qualified to join this great nation and have the ability and the determine to contribute this great nation.
. Waral dи,

3. This is a free market, if you can't compete with other job candidates , it's your own fault for not being qualified, not the hard working foreigners fault.

4. Other nations are rising now, the threat is real, China, Russia, etc. If Uncle Sam want to give up a war on fighting to keep talents people and lose the future, and lose everything this great country has  achieved, then do as those immigrants hater says.

5. High tech industry is mainstay of this country, and without "cheap" and “complainingless”  international students from STEM majors, this market and industry will never bloom. Again , think rationally Uncle Sam,  if you really want to lose the only advantage that keep this country remain world super power, then do as those new racialism people say.. Waral dи,

6. And after all, this is just a OPT extension proposal, not even an action targeting on changing immigrant laws. All the worries throw by negative comments are unfounded and subjective conjectured.

For above reasons I gave, I fully support the OPT extension proposal

I strongly support this OPT extension policy.

Though I am not a US citizen, here I try to talk about some reasons why this policy is a must for United States.
. 1point 3 acres
Now more and more foreign students are coming to US to attend college and the most of them choose science and engineer majors. Why them bother to do so? Why them decide to choose these challenging fields? Because many of them seek to gain working experience and the opportunity to put their knowledge into Practice after graduation. And stem OPT extension is necessary for them to achieve this goal.

I am currently doing my PhD research in a State University and our University is also a famous Engineering School. I observe that more and more kids from my country, China, choose my school for their undergraduate and graduate study(Master programs in majority). And the most of them go to stem majors.

These students bring money. Can you image how much money they bring to US? Most American students in our school are from Virginia and they pay in-state tuition while these Chinese Kids have to pay international tuition which is much higher than in-state tuition. In these two years our school is doing a large renovation project. We are building new dorm for incoming international students. We are expanding our parking lot. We are building more dining halls. We are extending our library, etc. I notice even the assistantship for graduate students has been increased. All these changes requires large amount of money. As a state university we may not have the chance to receive huge amount of donation compared with private university so I believe the tuition paid by international student contributes at least 90 percent of the cost.
No doubt American kids benefits a lot from all the things above. More money means better facilities, better professors, larger gym and library, bigger parking lot, and more.

These students bring more jobs. On one hand, our university are hiring more staffs and professors to satisfy these large group of incoming students. On the other hand, the local business starting to flourish. Our town is a typically college town which was kind of boring. But in this year, several new restaurants, two new Starbucks and a brand new IMAX movie theatre start to serve. Foreign students bring money and jobs. And with more money and more job, our school and our town is getting better and better. And more American Kids will choose our school. It’s a  virtuous circle.

If the new stem OPT extension policy fails to pass, US universities are no longer attractive. Students will go to other countries(Japan, Europe, Canada, Australia) to receive same level high quality education without paying the ridiculous high tuition(Tuition of US university is the highest in the world). Education is no doubt one of the most important parts of American Economy. So please think of that.

大家一起加油! ljz-8m5s-wzr5. 1point3acres.com
I strongly support the extension of OPT, because this is a policy that strongly benefits the whole American technical industry, even its long leading position in the world. I don't think the decision makers should be kidnapped simply by the so called employment rate of technical native workers. Once OPT is limited within 12 month without extension, the huge amount of STEM students will reconsider whether it is worthy to pay high tuition and living expenses to study in America without a long enough time to practice their skills learned here. There are many negative results of this.

The first and most direct is economy impact. Huge amount of international students generate a huge amount of GDP by paying tuition, renting and daily expenses, which also support the employment of related areas. It is so hard to deny that once the number of international students decrease, the employment rate of these areas won't be affected.
. 1point3acres
Secondly, the whole technical industry will definitely face a severe shortage of talented young technical workers with good education looking for entry level job without too high salary requirement. We all know that young talents are the treasure of tech firms, they are creative, energetic and most importantly, they won't cost too much of tech firms to hire them. So once they are gone due to the policy change, tech firms will have to raise their cost to compete for the native technical workers. On the other hand, native students and technical workers may not study and work as hard as before. As we know, the pressure of getting hired is one of the motivation that students and young workers fighting. The decrease of STEM students will also decrease their pressure because it will be much easier to find a technical job once the competition becomes much less severe. So the firms pay more than before and end up hiring workers not skilled as before. Is this a problem? Without any doubt, in the long run the leading technical firms in America will see the decreasing competition worldwide.

One more thing, now all the other countries around the world are making tempting policies to prompt their students come back to their home from USA so they can make contribution to their own country. Even from the perspective of keeping international competition position, the American government should not send these students back before they make enough contribution here.

So I regard those native technical workers are the people only considering their own interest without thinking in a high level for the interest of whole American industry. I believe the opt is a great policy benefiting both America and international students, which also demonstrates that America has always been playing the role of the most strong responsible country in the world.
