.google иI STRONGLY SUPPORT the idea of STEM extension is truly a good idea for the stable growth of large companies. It can give large companies recruit hardworking international engineering students for the positions which the number of domestic engineering students is not enough for.

I welcome this amendment to extend the OPT period for STEM graduates. Its great to see DHS taking this initiative that would help many American companies to have continued service from top class graduates from around the world. Recently I have seen many forums who spoke against foreign workers and asking for local jobs. They are not understanding the basic fact that for an American company to be the best in the world, they need the best talent in the world which eventually boosts the American economy itself. This amendment will have a long term impact on US Tech industry, with all these companies able to keep their competitive edge.. From 1point 3acres bbs

Its good for the students who have chosen US universities to get their Master degree, to achieve more exposure in US companies. US companies are known for having the most diverse resource pool which gives a unique opportunity for these students to work with top talents. With global universities competing to upgrade their status, these measures will provide a continued advantage to US Universities which have been a magnet for top students from all around the world.

I support the
proposal after careful reading of the document. I think this is a well balanced
document. STEM OPT extension helps U. S economy, the U.S higher education and
the technology sector. The oversight measures as proposed ensure protection for
American workers in similar situations as well as international trainees.

This proposal
helps U.S economy in several aspects.

1. It helps to
attract international students to study in the U.S thereby bringing in billions
of dollars. According to NAFSA stats, in 2013-2014 alone, foreign students
contributed $26.8 billion. International students pay almost double the tuition
that non resident U.S students pay. I know that because my child is currently
studying in the U.S. International students come to the U.S not only for the
educational and cultural experiences in general, they come to learn how to
apply what is taught to solve real world problems. OPT provides an excellent
opportunity for that purpose. Considering the complexities of STEM subjects, 36
months’ of OPT sounds reasonable. Other industrialized countries such as U.K,
Australia, Canada and even emerging countries like China, are providing such
opportunity in order to attract talented students.

Secondly,
sufficient amount of OPT will help students improve their practical skills and
also improve their competitiveness in their home country’s job market. It will
also give them an insight into American culture at the work place thereby
enabling them to act as a bridge between their home country and their U.S
employers. This will help U.S companies expand into their home country markets
in the long run as most international students will return to their home
country.

Thirdly, a small
number of international students will be hired by U.S companies which is also
beneficial for the American economy. They will contribute to the STEM work
force diversity and more importantly talented people who are critical for the
technology based U.S economy.

This proposal also
protects U.S workers. Section V(G) requires U.S institutions to give equal
protection to international trainees and similarly situated U.S workers in terms
of duties, hours and COMPENSATION and further stipulates that U.S employers can
not lay off or furlough U.S workers as a result of taking on trainees. This is
sufficient protection for U.S workers. Therefore, the proposal creates a win
win situation for all stake holders.

Finally, I think
Section V(F) need to be reconsidered as the fact students who abandoned their
STEM field to study in another non-STEM field should not be in the STEM OPT
program.

The IT industry needs STEM students who are smart and hard-working, and most of all, who best fit the job requirements.
The STEM students work hard because their families are paying a large load of money to American education institutions and IRS and Medicare center and landlords and other organizations to let them have a great learning experience in USA, and to gain great working abilities. It's not fair to say that STEM students are taking American's jobs. It's just a competitive environment and sometimes people who work like 100 hrs a week can get hired and paid.
And we STEM students will continue to study and work hard, to try to earn back every penny that our parents save up for half of their lives. We are capable and we deserve a fair chance to get more OPT. America is a country who don't judge people, and we shouldn't be judged based on our nationality. -baidu 1point3acres
What's more, job market doesn't have a constant size. The number of jobs in job market is changing all the time. When the industry era begun, workers replaced farmers. After WWII, women entered the working environment, first they were secretaries, and then some of them became important people.
With more useful people developing the STEM industry, and they industry will become larger and more advanced, there will be more jobs open to everyone, native or foreigners.
Just, let us compete in a fair environment, we are good to America. We are the people who make differences..1point3acres
