研二老学姐灰常迷茫求定位谢谢谢谢谢谢谢

读研之前，一直考虑申请的是PHD（因为我很年轻哈哈哈哈哈哈）。
但是在读研期间，我的科研之路走的并不顺畅。(因为之前要发文章被老板孤立，我甚至去xdf当起了周末兼职老师，发现我挺喜欢教师这个行业)
但因为国内的硕士经历让我怀疑自己并不适合科研，没有信心将来回国做一名合格的大学教师。

虽说本科大大小小参加过各类比赛，但没有找到过自己的passion（积极性只能持续几天，做出来开心，做不出来难过），工作内容都停留在给牛人打基础，自己做项目时比较容易没有方向，急需高手帮助。当然我不能否认，当把东西做出来的时候，那种sense of achievement非常棒。因为花费时间长，以及自己读研期间没有朋友，所以怀疑自己作为一名女孩子在ME上的路能走多远。

但出国之心不会改变。

我在coursera上自学过python，觉得挺有趣的。所以如果可以转cs我还比较感兴趣。看着大家找工作前刷leecode什么的，刷题对我而言也绝没问题。
另外，我对自己的学习能力比较有信心。心里想着读个master肯定没问题。

所以现在，倾向于申一个美帝的ms；考虑到自己也算是耐抗的工科女，而且如果遇到一个比较nice的phd老板（启动yy模式，因为在国内的master读的并不很舒服，天天去老板公司，我跟老板说要发文章于是被孤立。你懂的T T），应该也能够愉快地完成吧？（所以，我心里也许还有一个phd梦）

Q：
1 如果继续申ME（我的研究生课题是关于仿真, 系统辨识的，懂一点control），大概定位(ms & phd)？
2 如果换cs，定位(ms)？

If you want a good job after you graduate and do not care that much about the major, then try CS master. USC has a CS master program designed especially for students with no CS bachelor degree. In California, there are tons of job opportunities for CS students. I highly recommend this program. Also, I have several friends who got MS degree in ME from CMU and had some CS courses there, and they ended up in software engineering industry. You can also try this one.

By the way, PhD is a hard job. You need some sacrifices and go through some suffering before you get your PhD. Of course, if you can find a research area that you like in ME, you will be ok.

You seems to be interested in learning fundamentals/taking exams more than scientific research. Confident in learning new things by practice, working out exams.

I have seen some of my friends similar to you, not determined in what they are doing in ME. They have a strong advantage in undergraduate GPA like you. They also tried CS, and quit from ME PhD or ME MS with RA. But in the end, they all come back to ME because they realized CS is not actually what they really want to do.

Another reason is that, similar to you, they are very picky at grad school. So based on their background, the best school offer they could get is probably still a degree in ME. Some of them tried double degree in CS, and transfer to CS but still some of them don't want to pay the extra tuition so they end up in ME industry. I guess the former group (join the CS army) had a higher tolerance on their appetite in job market.

All in all, the worries come from you want to get high-paid, easy-working(like you did in high school, taking exam and get appraised in/after school) meanwhile you have to face with the fact in the job market in united states: there are limited positions in your interested field with all the aspects satisfied.

谢谢p前辈，说实话您的回复我过了一个白天，看了不下5遍才舍得回复您。

您分析得很到位(and nice writing)。我确实不太确定自己的兴趣点在哪里。本科时候做的东西主要偏硬件，好像并没有挺大兴趣；研究生期间稍微偏软，也几乎独立完成了一个project，成功的喜悦冲上头所以说自己喜欢偏软件。但您说的也对，即使我转成cs后，也不能成为一名合格的码农。因为代码是我的工具而不是目的。

BTW, I considered applying for Purdue because I have a close teacher Yaobin, whose major is Control. I have learned control by myself for three months. But control is too theoretical for me and I didn't survive though I got pretty good grades in his course....

Anyway, I am really interested in the CMU program you mentioned.

Dr Yao好像在美国没啥funding，他把大部分精力放在国内了。CS比你想象的简单，也比你想象的难，做entry level programmer容易，做high level software engineer难。
