GaTech CS MS:
GaTech CSE MS:
The CSE Master's degree is a joint programbetween the Colleges of Computing, Sciences and Engineering.
Georgia Tech’s Master’s degree inComputational Science and Engineering (CSE) prepares students for careers inindustry, government, and academia. Students will be well prepared for positionin industry in areas such as engineering software systems, web technologies(e.g. search or analysis of social networks), software for consumer product anddrug design, and financial engineering, to mention a few. Graduates will bewell prepared for positions in government (e.g., national laboratories) andwith government contractors in software and systems for modeling and simulation, systems integration, data mining and visualization, high performance computing, and computational modeling. Graduates will be well prepared for staff positionsin academia involving research concerned with the development and applicationof computational models in engineering, the sciences, and computing.
Brown:
All our courses aretaught by the same people who earn the department its reputation for innovativeeducation and research. Indeed, our faculty see research and education asclosely interlinked. As a result, our courses not only offer a solidfoundation, but are also forward-looking: you will routinely be exposed toideas here that represent where industry is headed in coming years.
The program has multiple tracks that make it easy for you tocustomize your route to the degree to your particular educational needs. Thoselooking to complete a more research-oriented degree can write a master's thesis. Those who want a research experiencewithout the full burden of a thesis, or would like to implement a largesoftware project instead of conducting novel research, can choose the project option. Finally, people who already havesignificant project experience in industry (and perhaps some research experiencealso) can opt for the coursework-only master's.
Our strong industrial partnerships will help you better learnabout industry's needs and directions, and will expose you to novel and uniqueopportunities. In addition, several professors from all across the department'sgroups work closely with industry (regional and beyond) and the government, soyou will be able to sharpen your skills here on problems that bring researchideas and methods to bear on problems of practical value.
JHU MSE:
The statement ofpurpose articulates and demonstrates an applicant's specific qualifications fora program of study. Programs are interested in an applicant's intended courseof study, why that applicant wishes to pursue that field, what research oracademic experience the candidate will bring to Johns Hopkins University andfinally, what that applicant's end goal might be once their work is completed.(This document is submitted only through the online application.)
Please note: The Graduate Affairs and Admissions office does not accept papercopies of the statement of purpose since applicants are expected to submit thisdocument through the online application. The uploaded file cannot exceed 500KBin size. The document must also adhere to 1" (inch) margins.
Q: CanI include extra information with my application?
A: We encourage you to include any information thatyou think will help us make a more accurate assessment of your abilities. However, it is generally better to give short abstracts of papers or projects(links to online versions are better) rather than full papers or reports. Wedon't have the time to read very much since we receive over 300 PhDapplications and 300 MSE applications.
Rice MCS:
The Master of Computer Science (MCS) degree is a terminal, professional degree intended for students who will pursue a technical career inthe computer industry. The MCS program normally requires three semesters offull-time study.

The Department expects that studentsstarting work toward a Masters degree have a solid undergraduatebackground in Computer Science.
UM Twin City:
MS in Computer Science:
Master’s applicants should havea strong background in computer science and a demonstrated ability to besuccessful in graduate level course work. The minimum GPA for MS students is3.25 and your past course work should indicate your ability to attain thisminimum in your graduate courses. Master’s applicants are expected to providetheir own funding although some MS students who have strong research abilitiesand interests may find funding for their second year.
The Master’s of Science (MS) inComputer Science requires 31 credits. Students can opt for the Plan A thesis,or the Plan B project. These plans should be discussed with your researchadvisor. All master’s students are required to satisfy the breadthrequirement by taking 3 courses in the 3areas and must also take 1 credit of Colloquium. Each student also takes at least one advanced graduate levelComputer Science course, usually in the area in which they intend to doresearch. Plan A thesis students will take 10 credits of MS thesis credits,Plan B students will register for the 3 credit Plan B course.
MCS in ComputerScience:
TheMCS degree (Master’s of Computer Science) is our course work only degree. Mostapplicants to this degree are interested in expanding their skills but are notinterested in the research aspects of computer science. The minimum GPA for anMCS student is 3.0.
Studentsmust complete 31 credits and the requirements are similar to those of the MSdegree. The breadthrequirement must besatisfied with 3 courses in the 3 areas; 1 credit of Colloquium, as wellas two CS 8000 level (advanced graduate level) courses in areas of interest.Additional coursework needed to satisfy the 31 credit requirement should becourses that help to form a cohesive program that are relevant and provide thebackground and depth expected of a Master’s student.
UCLA:
While a M.S.degree prepares students not only for careers in industry, M.S. applicantstypically demonstrate interest in developing and applying technical skills andtranslational knowledge. M.S. applicants should be aware that the selectionprocess is rigorous for M.S. students who later apply for admission into thePh.D. program.
