Maryland：
Write a brief (1,000-2,000 word) statement addressing the following two questions:
1.        What are your reasons for undertaking graduate study at the University of Maryland? Indicate, if appropriate, any specific areas of research interest. You may wish to discuss past work in your intended field and allied fields, your plans for a professional career, or how you developed your interest in or knowledge of your chosen subject.
2.        What life experiences you have had that you feel have prepared you to pursue a graduate degree at a large, diverse institution such as the University of Maryland? Among the items you might care to include would be your financial, community and family background, whether you are the first person in your family to pursue a higher education, or any other factors that you feel would contribute to the diversity of our academic community. You may also wish to give the graduate admissions committee some examples of your determination to pursue your goals, your initiative and ability to develop ideas, and /or your capacity for working through problems independently.

OSU：
Send a one-page statement of your academic goals. Include information concerning your interest in and motivations for graduate work. You may wish to include autobiographical or personal data which may be helpful to the Graduate Studies Committee in considering your application. Some graduate programs provide specific guidelines for what should be included in the applicant's statement of intent. Contact your graduate program office to determine specific information to provide.

Statement of Purpose: Upload a one to two page statement that includes your higher education, any awards and honoraries, area of specialization (e.g. computer, electromagnetics, control, etc.), what spurred your interest in electrical and computer engineering, and your plans upon receiving your degree (in the case of a master's student we would like to know if this is the ultimate goal or if there are plans to pursue a PhD).

Georgia Tech:
Length must not be greater than: 4000 characters

Please review each of the groups under the research section for complete descriptions. Additional descriptive terms, such as "computer vision" or "robotics," may also be included in the statement of purpose. Descriptions should be brief and use generally accepted key words to aid in database searches. The statement of purpose is important in the admissions process. This statement should be concise, outline a plan for graduate studies, and indicate why Georgia Tech is the right graduate program to meet this plan. It is important to include technical interest area information in the space allotted (4000 characters) on the in the online form. If applicable, faculty with similar research interests, who may be a potential research advisor, should also be noted as well.

PSU要求：
. 1point 3 acresThings to keep in mind:
1.       What the admissions committee reads between the lines: motivation, competence, potential as a graduate student.
2.       Emphasize everything from a positive perspective.
3.       Demonstrate everything by example. Don't simply state, for example, that you're a persistent person; you must demonstrate it.
4.       You don't want to make excuses, but you can talk about the mistakes you've made as a learning experience.
5.       If there is something important that happened (poverty, illness, excessive work, etc.), which affected your grades, go ahead and state it but write it affirmatively; that is, in a way that shows your perseverance.
6.       Make sure everything is linked with continuity and focus.
7.       500-600 words, 1 to 1-1/2 pages typed, single-spaced.
The Statement of Purpose has 3 or 4 parts:
1.       INTRODUCTION
o        Tell us what you want to study. For example, Physics Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Experiment.
2.       UNDERGRAD EXPERIENCE
o        Summarize what you did as an undergraduate:
§         Important classes which stimulated your desire for graduate study; specific project or class?
§         Research you might have done. Indicate with whom, the title of the project and what your responsibilities were. Write technically, since professors will be reading this.
§         Work experience, especially when relevant to experimental techniques, computer programming, etc.
3.       JOB EXPERIENCE
o        If you graduated and worked for a while before returning to grad school, then describe your work experience: company, work/design team, responsibilities, what you learned.
4.       RESEARCH AREAS OF INTEREST
o        Explain in greater detail what you want to study in graduate school; this is an elaboration of your opening paragraph.
§         Describe your area of interest, and why you chose it. There is no need to be over-specific; it's ok to be undecided, or to indicate flexibility.
§         Contact the department (e.g. look through our website) to learn about specific professors' research. If someone's research interests match your own, then mention this connection. (Be sincere; don't make up something bogus just to impress people.)

The Michigan State University Graduate Application requires two statements (Academic and Personal). The College of Engineering has developed the following guidelines to assist you in developing strong academic and personal statements. These statements are used both to evaluate your application to our graduate program and to identify candidates for MSU fellowship and scholarship opportunities. You may use the same Academic and Personal statements for both the MSU Graduate School application and the College of Engineering application in GIMS (see the Application Instructions for more information).

Guidelines for your Academic Statement
Your Academic Statement should be a concise statement of your plans for graduate study, your career goals, and how MSU's graduate program will help you meet your career and educational objectives. Your Academic Statement must include the following statement: "My intended area of specialization in the graduate program in (DEPARTMENT) at Michigan State University will be in _________________." If you have already been in contact with faculty or staff at MSU regarding your application for graduate studies, please list these contacts in your Academic Statement.

When preparing your Academic Statement, please include the following information:

Briefly describe key experiences that led you to graduate studies. Examples might include research experiences, internships, coursework or extracurricular activities.

Share specific, relevant examples of how these experiences helped you develop skills for success as a graduate student. For instance, you might demonstrate ways that you have synthesized knowledge from the classroom, developed research skills, communicated effectively, acted as a leader, or gained skills and responsibility over time.

Make a clear connection between your previous experiences and your current interest in graduate studies. If your intended area of specialization in graduate school differs significantly from your previous experiences, please briefly explain why you decided to change focus.

If applicable, explain any gaps or discrepancies in your academic record and share unusual obstacles or hardships that you have overcome in pursuit of your educational objectives.

Explain how your goals for graduate study relate to your longer-term career plans, including the pursuit of additional degrees or certifications if applicable.

Your Academic Statement should be concise, and no more than 2 pages when formatted in Times New Roman 12-point font with 1-inch margins and single line spacing.

Guidelines for your Personal Statement
Your Personal Statement should concisely describe how your background and life experiences - including social, economic, cultural, familial, educational, or other opportunities or challenges - motivated your decision to pursue a graduate degree.

When preparing your Personal Statement, please address the following questions:

How well do your personal goals for education and research fit with the interests of our faculty and the research activities within our department? Briefly describe research areas or questions that you find interesting and identify any specific faculty, labs or research projects at MSU that are of particular interest to you.

How have you demonstrated your leadership skills, or your potential as a leader? For example, you might share specific examples of how you made contributions as an officer in a student organization or how you assumed a leadership role within a team or during a professional internship. You could also discuss your potential for leadership in graduate school and afterwards by sharing your career goals and discussing your capacity to make a distinctive professional or scholarly contribution in your field.

How have you contributed to a diverse educational community, or how will you do so as a graduate student? How have you promoted understanding among persons of different backgrounds and ideas, or how will you do so as a graduate student? Examples might include service activities, leadership roles, study abroad, language study, etc.

If applicable, please describe any barriers or obstacles that you have overcome in pursuit of your educational or personal goals. Examples might include economic, social or health challenges, being the first in your family to attend college, family obligations, etc.

If applicable, please describe aspects of your personal background that will enhance the diversity of MSU's graduate student body, such as being multi-lingual, participating in a McNair or TRIO program, attending a minority-serving institution, etc.

If applicable, please describe anything else in your personal history, experience, or aspirations that distinguishes you from other applicants to our graduate programs.

Your Personal Statement should be concise, and no more than 2 pages when formatted in Times New Roman 12-point font with 1-inch margins and single line spacing.

Purdue：
Unless otherwise noted within the Graduate Program Requirements Web page, each degree-seeking applicant is expected to complete a Statement of Purpose.

The statement of purpose should be 300-500 words concerning your purpose for undertaking or continuing graduate study, your reasons for wanting to study at Purdue, and your research interests, professional plans, and career goals. You also may explain any special circumstances applicable to your background and elaborate on your scholarly publications, awards, achievements, abilities, and/or professional history.

很多 PS的要求都必须开了网申才能进去看到。。。。主页上都不写的。。。很恼火
