Ph.D & Master's Openings:

Ph.D application: Applications are invited for two fully funded Ph.D studentship positions at the
Department of Mechanical Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. The project will investigate: (1) mechanism design and dynamic analysis of a class of innovative biologically inspired robots for inspection and (2) control for automatic locomotion of the biologically inspired robots moving in confined areas. The successful candidate will directly benefit from the outstanding facilities in the department. Applicants should have a M.Sc/MEng in engineering or a related discipline.

For Ph.D. applicants from China, Prof. Zou offers a joint scholarship program with Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC). Once admitted through the program, Prof. Zou will cover tuition fees of the students during their studies. We welcome CSC applicants, and feel free to contact me for questions regarding application.

Master's application: Applications are invited for two fully funded Master's studentship positions at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. The project will investigate: (1) analytical study and design of bio-inspired robots for inspection and (2) numerical modelling and experimental testing of bio-inspired robots. The successful candidate will directly benefit from the outstanding facilities in the department.

I am looking for highly-motivated students with strong academic background in mechanics and
mechanical engineering for Project (1) and control engineering for Project (2). We will give preference to candidates who meet the School of Graduate Studies of Memorial University funding requirements, i.e., Level A, GPA > 80%. About me:

Dr. Ting Zou, assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. I received my B.Eng degree in Electrical Engineering and M.Sc degree in Automation from Xi'an Jiaotong University. Then I obtained my Ph.D degree from McGill University in 2013 where I proposed a novel bi-axial accelerometer design based on microelectromechanical (MEMS) techniques and its strapdowns, to improve current pose-and-twist estimation for rigid bodies. Afterwards, I joined the Centre for Intelligent Machines (CIM) at McGill University as a postdoctoral fellow, working on the optimum design of the next-generation transmissions for electric vehicles and trajectory tracking & motion control of autonomous tracked vehicles for mining blasthole drilling rigs. Besides, as a manager of Robotic Mechanical Systems Laboratory at McGill University during my Post-Doctoral career, I led the research team in various projects in design and control of robots, including mechanical design and control of a mobile wheeled robot with dual-wheel transmission and remote monitoring & control of tracked mobile robots, etc.
