Today I used Lyft for a ride and the car I got is a Tesla SUV! So cool. I'm excited so I had some chats with the driver. Initially, I thought the driver works in the tech industry and Lyft/Uber is just his part-time job. Maybe he is just driving around for fun. But it turns out he is a fulltime driver and he makes life by Lyft/Uber. Interesting! My impression about this tech-savry vehicle is $$$ and I get confirmed from the driver - it is worth $100K. Then why the driver choses Tesla? Why not a Toyota, Honda, or Ford?
After some chats, I think I understand the driver's reasoning and I think it makes sense. Firstly, Tesla offers a very generous warranty - you have 8 years, unlimited mileage, bump to bump coverage. Esp. the unlimited mileage feature, gets rid of all the worries on maintenance and repairment. Secondly, the vehicle was purchased with a promotion of lifelong free charging. That saves a full-time driver tons of fuel cost. Before this Tesla, he would spend $1200 on gas every month. Nowadays, not even a penny on fuel and he only pays roughly $1000 to finance the car monthly. What's more, driving an electric car also saves the money/efforts from oil changes - he usually drivers 250 miles every day which means a visit to oil change shop every 3 weeks at the cost of 50 bucks
Tesla's battery is great and the charging is fast. One full charge lasts around 250 miles and he only needs to charge the vehicle once or twice everyday. The charge only takes 30 minutes to complete - an ideal time frame for he to take a rest or some food.
Last but not the least, I can feel that this driver enjoys Tesla's driving experience very much. He keeps saying that this is a wonderful vehicle, maneuver is comfortable, etc. It makes him happy about his job. "If not for this Uber business, I can never imagine myself driving such a luxury car", he repeated this multiple times.
