NYU新开设了Master of Science in Data Science，13fall现在已经开放申请

今天在google+上看到的，NYU近期新创立了一个Center for Data Science，对这方面加大研发力度，并开设了一个新的master项目，现在已经开放13FALL申请，4月1日截止，我觉得对data mining, machine learning, statistics方面感兴趣的同学可以试着申请一下，而且这项目说是有奖学金的。原帖是NYU CS系的Yann LeCun发表的，下面还有人在评论中问该项目与CMU的BI and Data Analytics concentration of the masters of information systems program（MSISM)有何区别，Yann LeCun也作了解答）

为方便无法翻墙的同学，下面贴一下帖子的主要内容：

Applications are now open for the new Master of Science in Data Science. offered by the NYU Center for Data Science hosted by the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences.

Application deadline: April 1st.

Apply If:
- You want to become a data scientist.
- You want to learn about the methods and applications of data science: how to automatically extract knowledge from data using statistics, machine learning, the relevant areas of applied math, distributed databases, distributed/parallel computing and such.
- You have a good math/science background and a decent CS background. Ideally, you have taken Calculus I and II, linear algebra, one course in probability/statistics, a few advanced courses in an analytical discipline, and have good programming skills (through formal training or professional experience).

A number of scholarships are available for exceptional applicants.

跟CMU的MSISM项目的区别：

The CMU MSISM with the concentration in Business Intelligence and Data Analytics is offered by the CMU Business School. In our MSDS, most courses are offered by the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences.

Basically, our MSDS has more advanced machine learning, more statistics, and more math (i.e. more "methods"). The CMU program has more business/management-oriented courses, more "remedial" CS courses (e.g. "object-oriented programming in Java"), and is probably more basic in terms of ML/stats/math (there doesn't seem to be any ML people among the instructors). Also, our MSDS has more flexibility in the electives.

P.S. 不得不说一下google+真应该好好利用，我已经看到不下10个牛校牛教授是google+的活跃用户了。我觉得以后要是套磁说不定可以直接通过google+哦～

项目的介绍书我已经扔掉了，你可以上去看看？

总之，我觉得这个项目最后找工作也是跟optimization相关。至少有项目是要求运用统计知识来解决城市建设，包括车辆运输，交通问题，高楼保养（这是我唯一记得的主题）当然它会要求你和当地政府机构或者其它机构联合来做出一个优化方案。

据那个演讲人说这是一个新开的项目，所以还不远万里跑到我校来招生。。。
这位同学可以试试看。

这是斯特恩商学院的项目？

stern的那个项目是跟CMU的MSISM比较像，都是商学院开的，教的东西相对较浅，并且以前就有了。这个master of science in data science项目是新开的，而且是属于CS系(确切说是Courant Institute下面的），比较适合本来已经有CS基础，并且有data mining, machine learning等方向的经历的同学。

就是因为它实在太interdisciplinary ...

实际上自己也是也有点感兴趣 毕竟觉得这个东西貌似还是挺有用的 不是说政府支持这个项目的嘛 如果能提供实习什么的 感觉还是会很不错的 = =

CMU MSISM (BI & Analytics) is offered by the CMU iSchool rather than the Bus School.

MS是数学系的..很感兴趣，但是不知何时出结果 - - 纠结...目测415之后才出结果...我估计就已经从了别家了 = =

NYU只能申一个MS项目，已经申了CS的好像就不能再申这个了。。。
