来来来，share一下这几天问的密苏里和FSU信息~~

湓湓一直在纠结学校的问题，就是密苏里和fsu，在纠结去哪儿，于是就很仔细的问了问两个学校的学生~~~然后有几个人给了我比较nice详细的回复，问的都是中国学生。。。

总体来说，两个学校学生对自己的学校评价还是不错的。。

先来分享一下密苏里的：

回复1：我们系的学术很棒，但是目前市场普遍不如以前，系里钱也很紧张。想拿资助一定要考过英语，但是即使考过英语也要看系里的资金情况。assistantship好像很难分给master，因为从去年开始一次差不多50人，如果想拿，转phd以后希望会比较大。系里在招phd时会优先让master的学生知道。

关于工作形势，如果你想去公司，最好要暑假实习经验。如果想做学术，就一定要phd了，最好有文章发表。

关于英语考试，你可以去学校网页查找ITAP，SPEAK test和OPT test，SPEAK就是类似于托福口语的一个考试，而OPT相当于5-7分钟的试讲。两种考试主观性都很高，因为出题人，上课人和评分人都是同一组的。

回复2： For masters in statistics, the job market is promising for students demonstrate good programming skills in SAS as well as hand-on problem-solving skills. One drawback is that Columbia is a college town. That said, there are not many intern opportunities, which is critical for jobs in industry. In our department, however, we have very good biostatistics program, and students in that area have decent chance to get an intern and secure a job after graduation (at PhD level). In summary, I think statisticians nowadays have a good chance to find a job. But again, the job market also varies with the economy and the chance for finding a jobs depends on the areas you will focus on in your study.

As far as research is concerned, the PhD program in MU ranked about top 50 among those Universities have Stat Dept. The opportunity for RA depends on who you will work with and your advisor. Some faculty in our department have funding for RAs in summer and some do not. Regarding the admission procedure, all I can say is that the chance for you to get accepted given you are a current student will be higher than if you apply in China.
As you know, there are many factors that will kick in, e.g., GPA, research experience, etc.

回复3：你好，master应该是最近一两年才扩大规模的，所以毕业去向上能说的不多，与具体的研究方向很有关系。
总体来讲这里的教授应该是理论和应用各半吧，Biostat, Bayesian, Spatial, 各个方向都有。留在系里继续念phd应该不难（我指的是考试）。唯一的问题就是assistantship之类的钱越来越难拿到。
master期间申请assistantship的可能性不大，系里的政策是先给phd学生。

由于12fall忽然去了很多master，所以转phd情况不知道，历届转phd是比较easy的~~~

然后是FSU的~~~问的问题和密苏里问的差不多~~~

回复1:Our department enjoys very good reputation in statistics. The professors are very nice and very helpful to your research. I am not very familiar with the job market for  Masters. But if you could continue with PhD, the job opportunity is fine. if you want to switch to PhD program, you need to pass the qualify exam. If you were accepted in PhD program, the chance to get assistantship is very high.

Qualify is open to everybody. If you take the class here, it's not a big problem.

Summer research opportunity still depends on the professors:) Some have, some not.

然后总体是funding是不多的~~12fall好多学校都扩招了~~大概因为人数飞涨吧！！

我也把我问到的贴上来，我问了missouri的applied track和普通的MA有什么不同。项目打算招多少个人。想转phd可不可以。


The Applied Track MA program  and the Regular MA program offer the same MA degree. The only difference between the two program is:

The regular program requires enrolling  a research project course, submitting a written project report, and giving an oral defense of the project. The space for this program is very limited.

The applied program does not require the research project. Instead, students are required to take one other course of their own choices and take a written exam on two core courses (Data Analysis I and II) followed by an oral defense of the exam. We have more space in this program.

We start this new program last year (2012) to accommodate the large number of well qualified applicants. We expect about 30 students will enroll in this program in Fall 2013.

If you are an outstanding student, you may apply for our PhD program by the end of first year and may obtain financial support then.
