Amazon's more than 50 distribution centers in India are complying with the new guidelines. India has been grappling with a major plastic waste problem for several years. Asia's third-largest economy is struggling to dispose of the 9.4 million tons of plastic waste it produces each year. Amazon's announcement on Monday followed a directive last year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when he urged Indians to stop using single-use plastics by 2022. Flipkart, which made a similar commitment last year, has seen its entire supply chain's reliance on disposable plastics fall by 50%. Walmart's retail market, meanwhile, has said it intends to switch entirely to recycled plastic consumption in its supply chain by March 2021.  source
