Facial recognition technology led to the false arrest of Robert Williams. Robert Williams, a black man in Detroit, was arrested by police in front of his wife and two young daughters. According to a Report in The New York Times, Williams was detained for 30 hours before the charges against him were eventually dropped. A bill in Congress to ban the use of facial recognition by federal agencies would come after a handful of local governments have already banned the technology from police. Several local governments had already banned police from using the technology before the legislation. The new rules come as companies such as IBM and Amazon have withdrawn access to their facial recognition technology from law enforcement agencies. source
