Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Mississippi State University, Starkville, USA, is currently looking for candidates to fill a postdoctoral position starting this August 15th, 2020. The initial appointment is one year and can be renewed upon performance satisfaction.
We are particularly interested in the following areas, including 1) power system estimation and identification using synchrophasor measurements; 2) dynamic load modeling and power system dynamics and stability, especially dynamic simulations considering various sources of uncertainties. Experience in machine learning for smart grid applications is a plus. Due to the pandemic situation, candidates who are now in the US are preferred.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
1. Follow the project plan and provide high-quality deliverables to sponsors;
2. Assist in the writing and submission of new research proposals;
3. Assist in the writing of academic publications;
4. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Preferred qualifications:
1. Strong background in power systems modeling, estimation, dynamics, and stability;
2. Familiar with power system simulation tools (e.g., PSS/E, PSLF, or PowerWorld)
3. Good coding skills and proficient in Python, and/or Matlab
5. Strong communication and writing skills.

Junbo Zhao is currently an Assistant Professor at Mississippi State University, Starkville, MS, USA. He received the Ph.D. degree from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, USA, in 2018. He was a Research Assistant Professor at Virginia Tech from May 2018 to August 2019. He did the summer internship at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory from May to August 2017. He is currently the chairs of IEEE Task Force on Power System Dynamic State and Parameter Estimation and IEEE Task Force on Cyber-Physical Interdependency for Power System Operation and Control, the Secretary of IEEE PES Bulk Power System Operation Subcommittee and the IEEE Task Force on Synchrophasor Applications in Power System Operation and Control.
He has written three book chapters and published more than 80 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers. His research interests are cyber-physical power system modeling, estimation, security, dynamics and stability, uncertainty quantification, robust statistical signal processing and machine learning. He serves as the editor of IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid and IEEE Power and Engineering Letters, the Associate Editor of International Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems, and the subject editor of IET Generation, Transmission & Distribution. He was the leading guest editor of special issue of “Next Generation of Synchrophasor-based Power System Monitoring, Operation and Control” at IET Generation, Transmission & Distribution. He is the receipt of best paper awards of 2020 IEEE PES General Meeting and 2019 IEEE PES ISGT Asia.
