The U.S. government has accused two alleged hackers of conspiring with Chinese intelligence to steal hundreds of millions of dollars in intellectual property from scores of companies world-wide, in a wide-ranging criminal operation that recently targeted companies working on coronavirus treatments and testing.
Li Xiaoyu, 34 years old, and Dong Jiazhi, 33, have been stealing valuable business and trade secrets from a range of companies, research institutions and defense contractors across the globe for more than a decade, and their activities targeting hundreds of firms have continued to the present day, prosecutors said.
Additionally, prosecutors allege the pair tried to hack into at least four American companies working on coronavirus treatment and testing. Officials said they didn’t have evidence the attempts related to coronavirus were successful.
The two alleged hackers are accused of 11 counts of conspiring to access computers without authorization and to steal trade secrets, aggravated identity theft and other charges. source
