关于NEU TSM的一些问题

前几天发邮件问TSM专业的导师 Dr. Peter O'Reilly几个问题，他今天回信了，希为想了解TSM的人有点帮助，本人也曾今受到对这专业不了解的痛苦。anyway，想了解更详细的情况最好就问师兄师姐，联系方式在二楼。（忘了问转专业的事情，我会再发邮件问问的）


1. how can I know whether I have got  the financial aid form this TSM project, including the dean scholarships, or how and where can I apply for these financial aid? My enrolling letter did not mention this point.

If the letter of admission did not say that you have been awarded a Dean's Scholarship, then I regret that a scholarship has not been awarded.  Please note that very few scholarships are awarded each year.

2. I have heard the co-op is not so good in recent years for TSM's students for many reasons, it that true or what is the reality of this matter.

About 70% of the students eligible for co-op get a co-op.  However it is competitive and students need to be persistent.

3. this question really bothers  me:how is the job propects of the students who graduate from TSM?  I have heard some students from TSM said that it was hard for them to find a appropriate job or if they want to get a better choice they had to learn something about the computer science. Since TSM is a combination of different major areas, I had doubts about its professionalism, or in other way, i want to know what kind of jobs are especially  appropriate of TSM's students?

Graduate of the program get jobs in the telecommunication & networking industries.  Companies who have employed many of our graduates are Acme Packet (now part of Oracle), Cisco, Akamai and Ericsson. Job titles include network engineer, SQA engineer, etc

Some of our graduates have jobs in the software industry - particularly those who focused on software courses


4.in your second letter, i have some confusion about the TSMG, TSMB, TSMS or TSMN to TELE. whst is the differences between them.

Starting in Fall 2013, we will no longer have the areas of concentration so this will not be a source of confusion.

5. the last question is perhaps not  appropriate for me to ask you Dr. Peter O'Reilly, I suppose. But I do want some sincere suggestions, so I will be very grateful if you can help me some at this point.  The situation is that I have three optional schools now, one is NEU's TSM project,one is IIT's EE, another is UC Riverside's EE. And my primary consideration now is which school is more beneficial for me to get the chance to find a job in America in the future. this is really distracting me because i don't know how to choose. NEU is a better over-all school,it has better teachers , better students and a good environment--Boston,  but UC Reverside can make me more professional by learning the knowledge more concentrative , and in CA the chance to fine a job is not bad as well as in Boston, may be CA is better.

I don't think that's true at all.  I think telecommunications, networking  and software development are all strong in the Boston area.  Google is expanding its operation in Cambridge (across the river) and Boston is becoming more and more a hub for innovation in the United States.

To change majors while at Northeastern, ie, from TSM to EE or CS, you would need to apply all over again.  I believe you would also need a letter of recommendation from a faculty member in the new department.

Master's students in the College of Engineering are generally not eligible for research or teaching assistantships.

去UCR。。。这专业在当地我感觉，不怎么好就业，，，而且你看那老师的回答，这专业出来会有一部分人从业“网络工程师”和“SQA工程师”。。“网络工程师”，，之前在linkin上看到TSM那些人要考什么CCNA，我觉得会不会是做得跟这些网络设备有关的职业（特别他提到思科）。。对这不感兴趣。。
SQA工程师的话，，看到W大说过就是倒腾数据吧，，应该是很基础的工作。。
不过能去那些大的设备公司或者运营商感也是不错滴。。但是觉得面选择窄了一些。。
要说最重要自己学那是当然的，，但有个大环境岂不是更好？
选个EE根正苗红，国外专业对口还是有点关系的吧。。
这专业我觉得回国的机会会大些。。听师兄说过有些人回来还是能去到什么三大运营商的研究院的。。但应该要有关系进去的吧。。。
所以，综合考虑，还是去UCR。。。
