[CS/CE/EE] The X-LAB@UB led by Professor Jinjun Xiong has multiple openings for Ph.D. and post-doctoral candidates for the Spring or Fall semesters of 2022. Candidates with interests in the following research areas are strongly encouraged to apply with UB’s CSE department (http://cse.buffalo.edu) by listing Dr. Xiong as the preferred advisor.
• [S/W] AI-augmented learning, sustainability and cybersecurity in cyber-physical systems
• [H/W] System optimizations for cloud and edge computing, including GPUS, FPGAs and quantum computing
About Dr. Jinjun Xiong: He is an Empire Innovation Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) in the University at Buffalo (UB). Prior to that, Dr. Xiong was a Program Director and Senior Researcher at the IBM Thomas J. Research Center, one of the most prestigious industrial research labs in the world with many technology breakthroughs in computer science, semiconductors, mathematics and materials. Many of Dr. Xiong’s research results have been adopted in IBM’s enterprise products and tools. He published more than 150 peer-reviewed papers in top AI conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, EMNLP, CVPR, ICCV etc) and systems conferences (MLSys, VLDB, ASPLOS, MICRO etc). His publication has won 7 Best Paper Awards and 8 Nominations for Best Paper Awards. He also won top awards from various international competitions, including the recent champion award for the IEEE GraphChallenge on accelerating sparse neural networks, and champion awards for the DAC'19 Systems Design Contest on designing an object detection neural network for edge FPGA and GPU devices.
About X-Lab@UB: Dr. Xiong estalsihed X-Lab@UB to accelerate AI systems and solutions through a curiosity-driven approach. His research expands the end-to-end stack of the software and hardware systems technologies, including solutions in AI-augmented learning, sustainability and smart grids (smart energy), mid-ware infrastructure for AI productivity, and AI hardware systems optimization and accelerations (such as GPUs, FPGAs and quantum computing) for cloud and edge computing.
