A fully funded PhD position is available at the of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Louisiana State University. The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr. George Z. Voyiadjis. The research projects will be focused on material characterization and modeling of metals, developing constitutive models of metals under static and dynamic loads, and applying the developed models in structural applications. The objective is to understand the fundamental mechanisms of metal behaviors, so as to improve the mechanical performanceof engineering structures involving metals and bridging the length scales. The expected start date is Fall 2022 or earlier, and it is desirable to fill the position in a couple of months.
Qualifications:
- B.S. or M.S. in civil/mechanical/materials engineering or a related discipline. A master’s degree with researchexperience is a plus.
- Strong background and interest in continuum mechanics, metal behaviors, and constitutive modeling.
- Experience with finite element software (ABAQUS, ANSYS, etc.) and programming (FORTRAN, MATLAB, C++, etc.).
Application:
Interested candidates are invited to email Dr. Voyiadjis (voyiadjis@eng.lsu.edu) with the subject "PhD Application in Metal Modeling 2022 – [Last Name, First Name] – [Affiliated Institution]".
