• Multiple fully-funded Ph.D. positions are available in the lab of smart manufacturing and smart materials at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in the area of scientific machine learning and additive manufacturing (AM).

• About our lab:
  

Our mission is to develop sensor/image based scientific machine learning in identification, modeling, and design for advanced manufacturing to accelerate scientific discovery, smart manufacturing process control, and promote multi-functional/robotic material development.

• Current research topics include but are not limited to：
  

• Physical-based machine learning architecture development
• Multifunctional/robotic architecture material design
• Data-driven process-structure-properties-performance (PSPP) model development for AM
  

•        Students satisfying the following requirements are preferred:

• A B.S./M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related field.
• Broad Knowledge in machine learning, computational mechanics, topology optimization, and metal AM.
• Skills in Pytorch, Tensorflow, C/C++, and MATLAB. Experience in MPI/OpenMP and CUDA is a plus.
• Have strong motivation in pursuing a Ph.D.
  

These positions will be filled in Spring/Summer/Fall 2023.
