The Renewables and Industrial Analytics (RIA) Research Group at Rutgers University, led by Dr. Aziz Ezzat, invites applications for 1-2 open PhD student position with a start date of Fall 2023. The position is fully funded and will be in the form of a research assistantship (RA) or a teaching assistantship (TA).


In addition to meeting all PhD requirements, the PhD student is expected to broadly work on one of our research projects at the RIA research group related to the development, modeling, and testing of data science and optimization methods for renewable energy (mainly wind and solar energy)

Eligibility/Qualifications: Successful applicants would have strong skills in at least one or some of the following: (1) probability/statistics/linear algebra, data science/AI/ML, operations research; and (2) programming experience in at least one of Python, R, MATLAB (samples from prior projects or a GitHub repository will be looked at favorably). Prior research experience (e.g., a thesis or a research article) is a plus, but not required. Additional preferred skills include experience in forecasting, time series analysis, quality/reliability, and mathematical programming (e.g., mixed integer optimization). Typical applicants will have one or more university-level degrees in industrial/mechanical/electrical engineering, statistics, computer science, or a similar field. An MS degree is not a requirement to apply to this position.
