Post-doctoral Fellowship in Urban Economics
Applications are invited for the appointment as a Post-doctoral Fellow in the Department of Real Estate and Construction (REC), the University of Hong Kong, to commence as soon as possible for at least one year with the possibility of renewal. The REC enjoys a world-class reputation for its research and teaching in the real estate and construction fields. Under the QS University Rankings 2022, the REC is ranked in the 14th position in the subject of Built Environment.
Requirements
• Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree or be expected to graduate soon in applied mathematics, urban economics, data science, or related subjects from a world-leading university.
• Applicants should have a research background in mathematical and computational modeling.
• Preference will be given to the applicants with specialized skills in calculus, spatial equilibrium model, and equilibrium sorting model.
• Applicants with an outstanding track record of publications and research project experience will be an advantage.
Research Project
The research project aims at disentangling the interactive mechanism between entrepreneurial activities, land development, and transportation technology. Current studies in the real estate field are limited to investigating land and property markets per se, which ignores their links with industrial clustering and transportation technologies. The appointee will employ mathematical modeling skills to specify the relationship between startups, developers, and planners under a framework of spatial equilibrium.
The appointee will join a multidisciplinary team led by Prof. Kelvin Wong, Dr. Alex Shi, and Dr. Jintao Ke. Prof. Wong is the Head of REC and a leading scholar in real estate economics; Dr. Shi is an assistant professor in urban economics from REC; Dr. Ke is an assistant professor in transportation engineering from the Department of Civil Engineering.
Application
To apply, please submit your application to Dr. Shi via alexshi@hku.hk, with a CV and at least one representative work. Review of applications will begin immediately, and applications will be accepted until the position is filled. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The outstanding appointee has the opportunity to be nominated for the Postdoctoral Fellowship supported by Hong Kong Research Grant Council. Successful awardees will receive an annual stipend of HK$413,060 per year for the basic salary. |
