How to manage team during time when business contracts?

Focus
Who's our most valuable customers? What's our highest value/cost projects? Give up some huge refactoring that's not significant to business. Cut initiatives that have low ROI.

Operational
Restructure team to reduce communication overhead, priorities misalignment and resource allocation. Cutting mid layers to make communication channel shorter and clearer so that ICs are more aligned with org's objectives. Merging coherent teams together to better align priorities (help each other move forward same objectives) and leverage resources (Member under same managers, meet each day and work closer).


Velocity
Cultivate innovation to do more with less. Replace manual process with automation. Reduce technical divergence (use similar tech stack to reduce barrier during collaboration).

Morale
Encourage members to contribute ideas to navigate challenges because the sense of the ownership and control can boost morale. Then recognize and celebrate theirs achievements to make individuals feel valued. Finally, light at the end of tunnel, sharing any positive sign about business while being realistic.
