I support this rule. As an international student, I believe this rule will be a win-win for both America and international students. I would argue that it benefits America even more.

When I graduate from college, one critical reason for me to choose applying for graduate school in the United States over other countries is that I would get hands-on experience by working here after graduation thanks to the OPT rule. As a student with electrical engineering major, I got 29 months in total with the previous OPT extension rule. In this case, I would gain real experience before I go back to my country and have a more advanced start point for my career. With the new rule expanding OPT extension from 17 months to 24 months, I have no doubt that universities here will attract more international students as they did when the 2008 rule came out. More applicants to American schools means more academic achievements as well as more tuition, living expense and tax paid to both those schools and Americans.

According to U.S. News, 50,000 foreign-born STEM workers may be forced home if the previous rules are revoked and no new rule is made. I cannot imagine what those foreign students or workers may feel about this unexpected change as the return to their hard work. Coming home with one-year experience will probably not help a lot in their career, compared to their investment in time and money they made when they decided to come to this country with hope and dream.

I am working in an American tech company, along with a huge amount of international workers. One of the biggest current strategy of my company is to expand our business to other countries. The internationalization and localization are both crucial part of our product for our products. The benefit for our company to recruit so many foreign workers here is obvious because years of experience living in those countries give us much deeper understanding of the needs of those users than even millions of dollars of user experience research and interviews. We help to save the cost, but more importantly, reduce the risk. What we bring here really make the United States a better place, isn't that the biggest win?

I strongly agree with improving and expanding OPT. The major reason is it keeps our economy blooming and on top of world.

We are country that are based on immigrants. No matter it is the first British people across the sea to settle this country, or German scientists in world war II includes Einstein, and John von Neumann, or today’s entrepreneur includes Elon Mask, Satya Nadalla, they pushed our country a big step forward. Now imagine, after the elites of their company travel across the world travel this far to our country receives the best education in our country and being excellence in engineering and technology, but they have to get back to their country cause we don’t allow them to stay here, what a loss! The truth is, they probably not going to consider being here at the first place since they would not be able to stay.

We do know European is once the leading region in the world and is still now a tech center of the world. But how they does not evolve any Company like Amazon, Google, or Microsoft. There might be a lot of reasons behind this. However, not getting the best people might be a very serious reason.
We can see how fast blooming China and India IT industry is growing after we have seen Alibaba group has launch the biggest IPO ever in US stock market. It happens because their education system are educating lots of engineers and scientists, and people do stay. This is a clear example that people make great companies and make our life better.

Nowadays, even with the previous 17 months extension, our top companies still needs to outsource thousands of technical jobs to the world cause we are lacking of enough smart people in United States. By extending OPT by 24 months would at least ease on this problem and help our company to continue leading the world.

Actually, these students instead of spending the government money, are bring lots of money to this country while make our colleges more affordable. As far as I know, they spent 4 times the tuition and very little of them even have a fellowship. All this money are helping to keep our education cost lower instead of higher.

If you don't believe me, go to any tuition page and see how much the difference between an international student and a US student.

I strongly SUPPORT the proposal for the following reasons:

1. Be helpful to decrees the unemployment rate. The proposal of improving and expanding training opportunities will bring development of other sideline productions, such as catering industry, tourist industry, bank industry and etc. Therefore, a lot of job position can be available. STEM students will not contest with us, without them, we were still struggling under the economic crisis.

2. Improve US high-tech development. We should rejuvenate the country through science and technology. However, the people in our country is not enough for the development of high-tech. We have to attract the talented people come to our country to help us. Besides that, A lot of projects are impossible to be finished in a short time. If the new proposal cannot be approved, we will face a huge loss.

3. Keep us away from economic crisis. USA is a immigrant country. If we want sustainable development and keep the citizen away from economic crisis, we need to have appropriate policy to attract foreigns. Otherwise, the talented people will go to other countries.
