With the development of technology, more and more high-tech companies require complicate and long-term on-job training. Take telecommunication company Alcatel-Lucent for example, where I have worked for years. The first half year when I entered Alcatel-Lucent was mainly about technical training, minor bugs fixing and trivial modules implementation. To be honest, I didn't feel much of contribution to the company during that period, but that was essential. Because the whole system we were working on was so sophisticated and involved multi-domain knowledge and experience, it was not gonna be learned within days or even a couple of months.Without OPT extension, it means after the training period is accomplished, you have less than 6 months left to make real contribution to your company. In other word, the company paid 12 months salary for only 6 months pay-back. Any people with sane mind will find this is a "bargain" that no company will ever do.In this circumstance, the high-tech companies will have no choice but avoid hiring foreign students, especially STEM students who can work only 12 months for them. And this in fact forces these companies to violate the employment discrimination law in the United States. I call it a no-win situation.Therefore, for the sake of healthy development of high-tech companies, please support OPT extension.Thank you for reading.
