I strongly agree on the OPT extension program since it is a continues improvement of the current situation of American labor market although there seems to be some different voices down the road.

On the other side, foreign students add up the temporarily population around the school which would contribute to the local economy, creating more job opportunities. Please considering the restaurants, auto industry, accommodation industry, commodity industry and so many more. As there is a law against international students working out of school, those job opportunities created by the industries mentioned above are purely for native workers.
Secondly, there is no direct evidence showed that opt extension would damage the native workers’ opportunities. The isolate number, 43 thousands jobs were put out of the native workers by foreign students, could not be considered as a key clue for the reason against OPT extension program. The reason is that according to Wall Street and other statistic data, the unemployment rate of the U.S. is dropping constantly from 2010. Now, Oct. of 2015, it even reaches the lowest point in the past 7 years, 5.0%. Therefore, it is considerably insufficient if to prove that OPT extension program would harm the work market. After all, unemployment is bothering every country since the civilization was ever built by human kind. It would not be so simply solved by cutting off foreign students who will only be qualified for working 2 more years.
Thirdly, instead of putting native workers out of jobs, foreign students filled up the gap of American labor pool for a solid number of small to median sized companies. It is well known that there are restrictions on foreign students who are using OPT program. There are notable working opportunities out there only for native workers, especially from large corporations and sensitive industries. As a consequence, foreign students normally gain their working experiences in small to median sized companies. Due to cost consideration, these companies would not be capable of offering the same treatments compared with large companies. It is not determined by the foreign students, but the free economy. On the other hand, for foreign students who came all the way to the States to improve their professional skills in the most developed country in the world, working experience is sometimes more valuable than the salary itself. Thus, it is not only a win-win solution that leads foreign students to those “less attractive” job opportunities offered by small to median sized companies, but it is also an outcome of natural selection. However, is this situation went against any law? The answer is no. No matter the size of the company, the state law of minimum wage and the law that industry average salary must be met for OPT students are always been abide by any legal company.. Last but not least, canceling the OPT extension program might cause negative effects. Considering the discussion above, it is highly possible that the following happens:
1. Foreign students come to the States for not only academic purpose but also working experiences, especially for STEM students. With out the OPT extension program, a significant downfall might take place for the currently vivid education industry. Moreover, with the number of international student shrinking, the local economy might be harmed in an uncertain extent.
2. As where most of the current OPT students are working for, the small to median sized companies might face a huge challenge for their human resources changing that they are far from ready for. Canceling OPT extension would possibly end up as a drawback to the economy and even increase the employment rate if those companies could not survive. To sum up, I think the OPT extension program would bring more pros than cons to the American economy which would benefit the American society and everyone who is a part of it.
