    The department is only accepting new graduate students applications if supported by a departmental member. Note that your chances of acceptance will be significantly improved if you specify areas of interest and a description of your skills/expertise in the application. You are also strongly encouraged to contact faculty in your areas of interest directly and in advance.

    A limited number of guaranteed funding packages (GFPs) are available each year, which will typically provide approximately $16,000 per year for 2 years for MSc students and $20,000 per year for 4 years for PhD students. These will be awarded based on academic performance and research potential. Continued funding is contingent on satisfactory performance. In order to be eligible, complete applications must be received by the Faculty of Graduate Studies no later than January 1 for students starting on September 1 or the following January 1. Students who receive a GFP will be notified by March 15. A few additional GFPs may be available for late applicants whose complete applications are received by the Faculty of Graduate Studies no later than May 1. Funding for students who apply at other times, or who do not receive a GFP, is often available but cannot be guaranteed

    After consultation with the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) the GSC feels it is important to bring to students' attention the fact that the penalties imposed by the FGS for such infractions as academic dishonesty do not represent an upper bound on the severity of the penalty. In particular, side-effects caused by FGS penalties will still apply. Thus, for example, receiving an FGS-imposed grade of 'F' for academic dishonesty will be treated in exactly the same way as an "earned" grade of 'F' and will normally cause the GSC to recommend required withdrawal from the program. (This is because Computer Science typically does not recommend remedial action for deficient grades of 'D' or 'F').

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

The Arts, Media and Engineering program (AME, http://ame.asu.edu ) represents an ambitious interdisciplinary research community at ASU that is focused on the parallel development of media hardware, software, content, and theory. The AME is a joint effort of the Herberger College of Fine Arts (HCFA) and of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering. AME research addresses the discontinuum that exists between media content and media technologies, through a paradigm shift in media and arts training. The objective is to produce a new kind of hybrid graduate students who draw their creativity from the arts and their methodology from engineering sciences. AME trains students to integrate principles of DSP and multimedia computing with artistic ideas and objectives, with the goal of enabling new paradigms of human-machine experience that directly address societal needs and facilitate knowledge.

Admission requirements for the M.S. and Ph.D. in computer science

Students seeking the M.S. or Ph.D. degrees in computer science are expected to have a background that includes the following:

    Mathematics: two calculus courses and one linear algebra course.

    Computer Science: two introductory programming courses (CS1 and CS2 in the standard curriculum) and one course in each of discrete mathematics, data structures, algorithms, and computer organization.

Applicants lacking this background may be admitted provisionally into the M.S. program. In that case, the department will establish a suitable set of qualifying courses at the time of admission. To achieve regular status, provisionally accepted students must earn at least a B in each qualifying course. There is no provisional admission into the Ph.D. program.

2. Documents: Certified, Photocopies or  originals?            
You should send only  certified photocopies of original documents. We need an officially  notarized (by the educational institution, the embassy/consulate, a notary, or  a translation office) copy of your information plus a translation in English.  If the translation is notarized, the copy of the original does not have to be  notarized. Documents will not be returned back for the students. If the student  is selected he must bring the originals with him for registration in the  consortium institutions.                              3. Deadline date of receiving the postal documents?                
- The documents must be received 10  days at most after the application deadline date.                  
                  
      7. Can I  apply either by mail or on-line?      An application  submitted only by mail will not be considered at all. In the same order an  application submitted only online will not be considered. We need the documents  to be online, because we have 3 participating institutions that all are on the  acceptance committee. Paper documents are only used by one office to confirm  the validity of the online documents.
          9. What do  you mean by a certified copy?      This question  has many answers due to the international nature of our programs. In general,  we require a copy (not an original, because the documents will not be returned)  made by an official source authorized to make a copy of the document in  question. This official source for the copy varies depending on country. For  instance, copies of university documents in the United States are the duty of the  university notary with a university seal. Meanwhile, the Police normally  certify copies of university documents in France. In other countries, one  pays for a licensed notary or possibly a government office. Due to this  diversity, we do not have a single standard, but require a certification from  an appropriately qualified, official, and confirmable source.       10. Should  I send all my documents to Nantes  irrelevant of the university I would like to join?      Yes, all documents  must be sent to the Ecole Centrale de Nantes.
