【纠结】拿到个不算offer的offer

本人211普通学校毕业，在美国读了两年硕士，准备再申请ee phd,之前联系了一名教授，几次交谈下来说可以先给cover我一个学期的学费（不包括生活费），之后的要看表现再给。也找了几个熟悉这个教授的师兄问过情况，听说是个挺push的教授，感觉如果在他手下干活压力很大，而且奖学金也给他攒在手里，有点被动。不过知道自己背景不强，能有这样的结果也是意料之中，现在就是纠结该不该去？有没有类似情况的朋友可以给些建议？谢谢。

先恭喜一下，push的老板还是算了吧，不然太苦逼了，还不如没钱。

push这点还能克服下，主要是奖学金没保证让我担心，因为是口头答应的，不会写到i-20上，到时要是不给，我也没办法

又push又不给钱。。。那还是慎重考虑下吧，再多了解下他的学生的状态吧

能不能透露什么方向，好像。。。。

这不还早着呢，多申请几个学校试试啊

这个是春季的，得快做决定了

教授人品不好的话，去了绝对后悔！你本来就被动，教授人品再差的话，你这几年不都得让人家牵着鼻子走啊？让你玩命干活就得干，再延期几年。。
本来拿延期威胁你就够你受的了，还不给钱。。
看楼主说的，就觉得这个教授不咋地。。

之前和教授又联系了下，教授回信了，大家帮我看看到底教授是怎么想的，先谢了。

Dear XXX,
I can only say that I’ll try my best to support you for the second semester and onward if you are sincere and progress well. As a matter of fact, rarely any students can be GUARANTEED  of financial support for more than an academic year. It’s unethical for me to make such promise to my students as my funding (or anyone else’s) varies and is not guaranteed either! However, so far, none of my students who are progressing well are short-changed. There are hardly guarantees but best efforts in realty!

I welcome you and work with you if you decide to join my group---hopefully, you will work well with other members as well; it’s perfectly fine if you have other plans in mind. Regardless, I wish you well.
