谢谢呢。
今天刚收到Nvidia Silicon Validation Engineer电面的通知。你的解释正好让我多理解了些。

My apologizes. Maybe I misunderstood you. I also can feel the same pain about Chinese. Sometimes I just do not know which words/expression I shall use. And I use the wrong ones so often.

I mention short channel effects to demonstrate the researching/academic ability of Professors. The  professor who is teaching me right now obviously knows how to deal with it and has some sort of research/project with some company for short circuit effects.

I know in companies, a certain engineer is only responsible for a very specific tasks and some, if not most, of knowledge learned in college won't be utilized at all during career. But Academics and industry are so closely connected. When there is a problem the industry can not solve, companies invest a great amount of money into labs/professors.How transistors were invented is a great example.

I do believe Taiwan, Japan and PRC can compete with U.S. in some areas but on the whole picture, U.S. is the only one which excels at almost every fields of VLSI, electronics and microsystems. Just read the stories of VIA Technologies and Japanese supercomputers, you will know what I mean.

But I am not saying Japan/PRC/Taiwan sucks. I just do not believe anyone of them can achieve the dominating role which U.S. has right now in a upcoming future.  During the racing of supercomputers, lots of countries such as Japan and German joined and excelled. However, the only all-time player is U.S.. China joined the race recently and has been played well. Can PRC beats U.S.? I really doubt it.

But I believe PRC/Japan/Taiwan have their own decent places. For instance, I know Japan has some companies which can sell unbelievable lamination materials for packaging. No one in U.S. can compete with them.

In the end, I want to point out I am only a senior student at Georgia Tech. I have not earned any authority over the avaregae people like the professors or Nobel prize winners. What I said maybe wrong and I do not calim I am 100% correct or superior to you in the topic we are discussing.

Thank you for typing so much, you made your point very clear and reasonable. .

It is very true that "On the whole picture USA dominates". We can say TSMC is very good at fabrication and some Japanese company can make very good lithography equipment. Or it is true university like TU Delft is able to publish a lot of papers on JSSC, on the whole picture there is no way for these countries to compete with USA.

My idea is very similar to yours, it is just we focus on different points. For me the whole picture was like the total ranking for a university,  say, like USnews. We can say USA is the top one like Princeton or Harvard. However when it comes to major ranking, like EE or CSE, there is another picture.

I feel like the IC is also the same case. There are so many domains in IC and some of them maybe not very much related to each other. Say like fabrication and circuit design. In the circuit design there are also Digital and Analog, and there are also numerous sub-domains in these different topics. Among those sub-domains, it is possible that some countries are doing better job than America or can compete with USA.

Also those sub-domains are a lot of normal people like me looking at. People may go to study EE in UIUC rather than Yale, it is also possible that people go to TU Delft to study Op-amp design rather than go to other US top tier universities. For different people, US dominates may become a different case, especially like me. .google  и

Again I apologize for my formal word that may offense you, I am also just a senior student and you definitely know more than me. I am really happy that you can discuss this with me.

Me too. Sure, University of Washington, hope you will do well on your interview with Nvidia. Is it a full time position? I just went to career fair last week and Nvidia was the only company asking students to solve problems in the career fair. lol.

I did not know until I checked a few minutes ago. Turns out it is a full-time position.

My chance of accepting a full-time position now is not high. I do view a Master degree is necessary nowadays. Intel hires 10% undergraduates, 45% masters and 45% Ph.D.s. I want to get a master degree at least.

But let's say I still want to do well during interviews and I truly appreciate your kind wishes.

Do you want to go to Intel? If your visa status is F1, I think Intel will not sponsor undergraduate student with F1. If you are a permanent resident or citizen, I think you will have a very high chance getting into Intel just with your bachelor degree.

Exactly! they don't hire foreigners with B.S.

This is one of the most important reasons I want to have at least a master degree.. ----

But I am not saying I want to go to Intel. Generally any great company is fine to me.
