美国电视剧分类
.google  иsoap (opera) (肥皂剧) 有点像是连续剧(serial)，前后情节有连贯但是很拖，经常讲感情，白天时段10:00am-3:00pm给主妇看的，最初赞助商是肥皂公司故得名

sitcom (情境喜剧)＝situation comedy每一集的情境喜剧通常会有一个独立的情境(situation)，一集长度通常３０分钟，通常至少三分钟要一小笑，五分钟要一大笑，配音还会加上罐头笑声canned laughter以帮助观众发笑（e.g. Friends, Sex & the City）情景喜剧的新作总在演季的黄金时段，在每周固定的时间由全国商业电视网播出，每年25集左右。

drama (正剧，剧情系列剧)和sitcom 类似，也是每一集有独立的故事，但内容并非以搞笑为主。绝大部分在全国性的商业电视网的晚间黄金时段播出，基本上是每年9月至次年4月，每周一集，一年25集左右。在结构上也基本上是一成不变的。每集分为：序幕、4幕主戏、尾声，每一幕之间是加广告的时间。
Drama or sitcom一般是在7月底到10月初拍一季的前半部，Thanksgiving和Christmas间再拍4-6集，Winter结束时再拍完的。
1、        按是否情节连贯分：Procedural Drama (如CSI, Law & Order等，故事情节为主，人物情节基本没有，每一集是stand-alone（独立）的）和Continous-storyline Drama. 一般来说Procedrural Drama重播时的rating要比其他的好一些，也跟容易被Cable Network买下rerun rights. 当然现在很多drama是处两者之间。

Weekday Daytime一般大概是指10:00am-3:00pm,针对家庭主妇。Syndication则是Broadcast Network和Local Station妥协的结果，一般在4：00pm-6:00pm,放一些成本较低，题材较新奇，或由Canada制作的TV Program,如有名的Star Trek前几部，Mutant X.特色是一个节目在New York可能由NBC Local Station放, 到了Philadelphia就有可能由WB local station放了。

Mini-series(短剧)，一般也就几集或是最多二十几集，很多都是连续播放，而不是一周一集放的。(e.g. Band of Brothers /Taken/From Earth to Moon)

PG-13 (parental guidance)，辅导级，13-18岁观众需在成年人的陪同下观看
R-rated (restricted) 限制级

很多人看到 Academy Award 时都无法联想到这个字指的是奥斯卡金像奖，实在是个有趣的现象。因为他们把奥斯卡金像奖都直接翻成了Oscar Award 但事实上比较常听到的用法应该是Academy Award 才对，Oscar 其实是那座小金人的名字，因为当初小金人设计者仿他名叫Oscar 的叔叔模样打造而成的，故得此名。
有时候Oscars (加上-s) 也可指奥斯卡颁奖典礼(Academy Award ceremony)。比方说"Who do you think is going to win the Academy Award, umm.. I mean, Best Actor at the Oscars this year?" (你认为谁会在奥斯卡颁奖典礼赢得今年的最佳男主角？)
通常一部好的电影都会标示自己有哪几项被提名 (Academy Award nominations)，实际获奖(winner of...) 的又有哪些，诸如
Best Picture (最佳影片)，
Best Actor/Best Actress (最佳男／女主角)，配角是supporting actor/actress
Best Cinematography (最佳摄影)，
Best Costume Design (最佳服装设计) 等等。
此外国际上知名的Golden Globe (金球奖) 和由柏林国际影展所颁的Golden Bear (金熊奖) 也是在看电影宣传时常会见到的字眼。

评论电影的档次：
1. awesome，太棒了
2. It’s OK. I'd say it's worth renting (on video) but don't see it at the movie theater.

Did he take you to a candlelight dinner? 烛光晚餐 ，气氛(atmosphere) 看起来比较好, 泛指高级餐厅，不一定非得要有candlelight 才行。
类似还有说法是moonlight walk月光下散步

beat around the bush (旁敲侧击)举例：
本来要问：How many guys did you sleep with?
结果问：How many boyfriends have you had so far? Did you get along well? How intimate are you with your boyfriend? Did you hum hum hum..? I'm just probing.

pick up someone 程度最深，直接带回家了

go/chase after someone正在追求

He doesn't want to go steady. 他还不想定下来=date each other exclusively.

He is gay(形容词). 他是同性恋。正式homosexual 不带有污蔑的口气
还可以泛指所有除异性恋之外的男同性恋女同性恋(lesbian) 和双性恋(bi-sexual).
gay 做 “快乐”解释的用法已经不常见.（ South park 讲热带雨林一集里故意双关的用getting gay with kids作为歌词）

He is way to cute to be straight. 异性恋。
straight 这个字有另一个解释是指很“坦白的、诚实的”，＝candid/frank
I am as straight as an arrow.一般指诚实无欺，也有双关用法

She is a lipstick lesbian. 她是女同性恋中的女生vs. butch lesbian(tomboy)
She is a lesbian.(noun)/She is lesbian.(adj.)
lesbo有侮辱的味道在内

She has been a tomboy since she was born.
Tomboy 用来指那些比较没有女孩子味的女生，她们可能喜欢留很短的头发，外表看起来很阳刚，喜欢玩传统观念认为是属於男生才有兴趣的东西，但并非所有的tomboy 都是女同性恋．

You cannot say he is queer simply because he went to a movie with a guy. 略带轻视的口气，可以做名词或者形容词
Queer 这个字原意是指有点怪怪的，跟eccentric、weird、grotesque、funny 和strange 这几个字的意思差不多。但是如果你要形容一个人怪怪的，还是别用queer 来形容吧！因为太容易被误会了。比方说有个人每天不管晴天或下雨都要带一把伞，你可以说，"He is eccentric." "He is weird." 都行，但是请别说，"He is queer." 因为现今queer 一般都是当成“同性恋的”来解释，你说"He is queer." 人家会误以为他是同性恋。但eccentric、weird 和strange 就没有这个顾虑。

He is a fag. 有相当程度的污蔑之意, faggot 更甚．
South park 中说现在fag 除了骂同性恋，还有说人非常令人讨厌的意思。
另外一个辱骂的词fudge packer（见South Park 说Tom Cruise）

男同性恋者有sissy(娘娘腔)He talks like he is a sissy/He is a sissy.

Their drag queen show is very famous around here. You've got to see it. 变装秀
Drag queen show变装秀/人妖秀，就是男生打扮成女生的样子载歌载舞，有时候还会穿插几个黄色笑话。通常比较知名的gay bar 里都会有所谓的drag queen show，而且他们会打出比女人还女人的口号来作号召。
穿着异性服装的行为称为cross dressing，而喜欢这样打扮的人称为transvestite/cross dresser。

I didn't know I am bi (=bisexual) until I was 13.
She must be bi because she is attracted to both men and women.

That cut looks very gross/nasty. 这个伤口看起来非常地恶心/严重。
语气更强烈的disgusting
ew~~~拖长音也表示恶心。

He is so lame. = He is no fun 无趣。还可以说weak:
Butters: Yeah, me and AWESOME-O even had a slumber party last night!
Cartman: Weak.
冷笑话The joke is so lame.

lame duck原意是指一群鸭子中老是落队的鸭子，现在指软弱没有作为的人，特别是政客
Mr. Clinton is a lame duck President.。
Lame duck 的用法现在会那么普遍主要是在十九世纪时，美国国会的期中选举在十一月举行，但是那些落选的议员却要等到隔年的三月才会被踢出国会，所以在这段期间内，他们就开始乱搞，尽是通过一些对自己有利的法案。为了制止这种不负责任的行为，在1934 年美国国会通过了所谓的"Lame Duck Amendment" (跛鸭修正案)，来匡正这种荒谬的行为。这也是为何lame duck 这种用法一直流传至今的原因了。

Dirty 还可以解释成“下流”/nasty

sticky 是特别指“黏黏的”，sticky finger有sexual 含义
greasy 则是指“油腻腻的”
kinky有特殊／BT的性癖好

Pathetic 和poor 这两个字都是形容一个人很可悲，专指有些事情不是自己所能控制而且也无力控制的。
pity 当动词指同情sympathize
