另外 "Why bother?" 我也常听老美讲，意思就是为什么要这么麻烦﹖例如有人说我们可以集满十个印花去换奖品，你就可以说，"Why bother? I am not interested." (干么这么麻烦呢﹖我实在不感兴趣。)
Tell him I'm not here/busy/not available/out right now/asleep. 借口不接电话
Who? Me? 是我吗? （老师点人起来,用手指某个同学，方向不确定时如此确认。）
I always speak what I think= I always speak my mind 心直口快。

Dow Jones Industrial Average up /down(动词) 123.72 points.
High techs are mixed 涨跌互见
Intel is unchanged. 股价持平(简写unch)
Flat, 指的则是股价在平盘附近差价不大,
The NASDAQ is trading/moving higher in the record region.
The stock opened higher./ended lower.

涨的动词S&P 500 index gained 18.21 last week. /advance, gain, climb, rise
涨幅较大: surge/soar/jump/skyrocket/The stock price pops up like popcorn.
强势Biotech stocks are really on fire today. /The stock is riding a horse on fire.

跌的动词Russell 2000 shed 10 points to 321 points. /slip, fall, decline, drop, lose, dip.
跌IBM lose ground and dip into red again.
.1point3acres跌幅较大: sink/plunge/plummet
崩盘式的下跌 slump/tumble
The stock price is falling like a free fall.自由落体一般
Internet stocks got hammered/got hit on the early day trading. 受创.

大幅波动Investors are expecting a roller coaster ride/bumpy ride on IPO stocks.
形容词 volatile
由跌到涨: Cisco rallied/rebounded before close.

Whatever! 随便.
Whatsoever 随便哪个都好，无所谓。
请不要说成"I don't care." 这样子听来是很不礼貌的.
Whatever 放在句尾也有Who cares? 的意思. "I totally have no idea how to file my tax return, whatever."

小笨霖英语笔记本六十八: 英文乌龙笑话三
Sandwich vs. hamburger  面包是一样的，中间所夹的肉不同。
三明治未必是三角形的。汉堡所夹的是烤的或是炸的肉片, 但三明治则是夹现成的熟肉切片(如火腿之类的 sliced meat).
New York Post Office = the office of New York Post  vs. 邮局应该是USPS
French garlic in New Orleans vs. Fresh garlic
注：历史上，New Orleans 所在的Louisiana 是法国的殖名地, 所以整个New Orleans 的建筑物都充满着法国的风情, 还有一区最有名的French Quarter (法国区) 更是成为New Orleans 的精神象征.
Half cheese? vs. Have cheese?  一半 cheese? 要加cheese? 注意F和V发音。
Sword（剑） w不发音；  pseudo (假的) p 其实是不发音的.
Strawberry 草莓vs. Straw 吸管  
The origin of Ruby Fall.  红宝石瀑布的起源.
美国地大物博, 有许多值得看的东西, 像是在田纳西的地底瀑布Ruby Fall 就是一例. 在走完漫长一公里的地底洞穴(cavern) 后, 一个地底瀑布赫然出现在眼前, 那种震撼的感觉, 令我至今都难以忘怀. 导游说Ruby Fall 的由来, 是第一位发现她的探险家以他老婆的名字为这个瀑布命名, 讲到这里, 他顿了一下, "So, tell me what his wife's name is?" 只听到一个美国小孩兴奋地说, "I know, her name is Fall." (注: 应该是Ruby) 只逗得全团的人哈哈大笑.

Wrong place, right time. 没理由的运气坏，刚好遇到坏事情。

You are such a guy. 完全符合男人的stereotype, 例如好色，不爱干净等。
He is a pervert/He is perverted. 他是个变态(色狼的行为)严重贬义
Are you a stalker? 你是不是跟踪别人啊?
I am not a peeping Tom. 偷窥狂.
为什么用到Tom 呢? 古时Coventry 地方的市长要加税, 老百姓苦不堪言. 就央求市长夫人Lady Godiva 说项. 市长说, 如果夫人肯裸体游街一圈, 就不加税. 市长夫人答应了, 但是每家每户必须关起门窗, 不许偷看. 结果, 有一个叫Tom 的男子忍不住, 就从门上的小洞偷看, 后来眼睛就瞎掉了. 因此, 以后偷窥者就被称为peeping Tom, 而门上的偷窥小孔就叫做peephole.

Men are pigs. This is no secret. 男人是脏猪, 这已经不算是秘密了.

He is a male chauvinist（ pig）. 大男人主义/沙文主义/强烈的爱国主义

It's macho to score. 算是男人就要敢上床.
macho = 子气概的/大男人主义的人
Score 指的是男女有肉体关系上的进展

macho movie打斗血腥或科幻, 通常以男性为中心, 主角多为猛男型的电影
chick flick 通常女生喜欢的文艺片，多半以女性为中心, 男性则退居配角地位.

Big boy 有时候指跨国大企业(major player) vs. little guy

No way. I am a mature adult. /I'm twice as mature for my age. 远比跟我同年龄的人都要来得成熟.

You bastard.  你这个混帐东西.  (Bastard 原意是私生子/出身不好)

介绍别人：

制造话题帮助对方熟悉：

跟生人交谈：

You can ride Shotgun! 坐前座 =  I want to take the front seat.
"I don't want to ride the bitch." (我不想坐后座中央)

What is the fastest way? / Which way is quicker?

抄近路take a shortcut, 或是cut corners (含贬义).
绕远路take a detour

Is this the way to I-85? Which way is it to I-85?

You just missed the exit!
You missed the turn.
We just passed a gas station.

Shut up. Backseat/ passenger driver. 不开车还乱指挥的乘客。

Get off at the next exit. /Get on the freeway/ interstate.
Take the next exit.
Make/Take a U-turn.
Take the on-ramp/Take the off-ramp.

Where can I drop you (off)? 你要在哪里下车？
I need to go back to drop my car off. Then we can carpool.

What are the landmarks around there? 那附近有没有什么明显的建筑物没有?

(I=Interstate 由联邦政府所补助兴建的道路)
1: 通常东西向的Interstate 就是以0 (偶数) 结尾, 例如I-10, I-20....I-90, 而南北向的则以5 (奇数) 结尾, 例如I-15, I-25... I-95. 这些州际公路都是横越好几个州, 甚至能从大西洋岸一直延伸到太平洋岸, 形成绵密的交通网. 另外值得一提的是, 当这些州际公路经过一些比较大的城市时, 就会有另一条环城的外环道路, 通常是越大的城市越多环. 这些外环州际公路的编号都是三位数, 例如是由I-85 所洐生出来的环城公路可能就叫I-285, 在I-85 所经过的许多城市例如亚特兰大就建有I-285.

旋转木马Carousel  而不是 "rotating wooden horses" ，重音可以在第一或者第三个音节。

中国的绿豆 = mung bean vs. green bean 四季豆

美工刀= utility knife= pen knife vs. 削铅笔机(pencil sharpener)

Hook 钩子，Hooker 妓女，tow hitch 车后面的拖钩
