分享套瓷得来的Statement of Research Interests写作策略

我申19Fall PhD，方向偏社科，非CS，套瓷的是AP，回复很积极，不管结果如何，给了我申请这个学校 很有用的信息。现在把教授回复我的涉及到Statement写作部分的贴出来分享给大家，希望对大家有用！

So here is where we consider their application and which professors they mention in their application. Students who can write an essay that outlines a pretty clear research area have an advantage here. They gain another advantage by showing how their research interests overlaps with a professor. Students who mention 3 professors and show how their interests overlap with those professors tend to have the best chance of being selected. More then three and the essay tends to seem unfocused. Fewer than 2 and we start thinking they may not fit very well here. So 3 is the prefect number, but 2 is ok. 4- not so good. Listing just 1 professor can work, but then a lot of other factors can come into play, like, does that professor currently have grant funding for a new student, or is the professor going to get a school-supported student for a few years. These things tend to change from year to year, so mentioning just one professor is more risky than mentioning a few.


自己总结一下，
1. 这个Program可能是强Committee；
2. Statement of Research Interests 里面最好提3位教授，2个太少了，3个以上又显得没有focus，3个教授就刚刚好。

我觉得其实提多少教授其实还是挺看方向的，因为有些学科可能小方向差距很大，系里面确实教授就没几个，强行多提也显得很假.....

我申的这个是个大系，每个教授一般列出了7个左右的research area，往往会有1到2个area和其他人的重合。

我申的另一所，系里一共就只有十几个教授，方向互不重合，那个学校我就只列了1个。。

剩下的学校，尤其是没套瓷的，我也拿不准到底mention几个教授。目前我的策略是在自己感兴趣的情况下，如果系的教授比较多，尽量列2个或者3个
