GRADUATE-STUDY OPPORTUNITIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF VICTORIA, CANADA
FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH A BACKGROUND IN ENGINEERING, COMPUTER SCIENCE,
OR A RELATED DISCIPLINE (STARTING SEPTEMBER 2019)
I am seeking new graduate students with strong programming skills
who would be able to commence their studies in September 2019 or
January 2020 and are interested in research in the following (and
related) areas:
* signal (e.g., image, video, and audio) processing, especially
image processing;
* geometry processing and computational geometry;
* triangle mesh models of images and other bivariate functions
and their applications;
* efficient software implementations of algorithms for signal
and geometry processing and other areas using the C++
programming language; and
* wavelets, filter banks, and multiresolution/multirate signal
processing.
Interested individuals should contact me by email at
mdadams@ece.uvic.ca as soon as possible. In your initial email to
me, PLEASE BE SURE TO INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:
1) a copy of your resume;
2) a copy of all of your university transcripts (in English);
3) a copy of your most recent TOEFL or IELTS score report;
4) a copy of your most recent GRE score report if available;
5) a detailed description of your computer-programming and
software-development background, including the extent of
your knowledge in the following areas: C++, data structures
and algorithms, Linux, software build tools (such as Make or
CMake), version control systems (such as Git or Subversion);
6) a detailed description of the most challenging programming
project that you have undertaken individually (i.e., on your
own), including: what the software does, which programming
language was used for implementation, the number of lines
of code (excluding comments), and the amount of time taken
to complete the project.
I am willing to consider applicants with a background in
electrical/computer engineering, software engineering, computer
science, or a related discipline. It is essential that the applicant
have strong programming skills and a strong passion for programming,
since the research projects of my graduate students involve a very
heavy programming component (usually in C++). Applicants must be
self funded, as I cannot provide financial support.
