Postdoc and Ph.D. opportunity in Environmental Engineering/Biotechnology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC)

The Environmental Molecular and Synthetic Biology Lab in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) has an opening for a Postdoc and a Ph.D. student to work under the guidance of Dr. Na Wei, starting from Summer/Fall 2022 (the postdoc position can start in Spring 2022). Candidates with past degrees and research experiences in biology, bioengineering, chemical engineering, and environmental engineering are welcome.

Our lab will provide the opportunity to work on exciting research projects in emerging areas of synthetic biology for environmental applications. Specific research directions include: i) waste-to-energy/value biotransformation and resource recovery, ii) renewable biocatalysis for water reclamation and reuse, iii) biosensing. Underlying the abovementioned research areas is the combined application of molecular biology techniques, synthetic biology, protein engineering, systems biology (omics), and environmental engineering principles. The environmental molecular and synthetic biology lab, the CEE department, and UIUC have state-of-the-art facilities to support the research.
