护照是申请必要的材料吗？

我在很久之前问过他家我的申请材料状态，结果他很久之后2月8号回了一封邮件：

Please note that your file indicates that we are missing the following application materials. However, please note that application materials submitted within the past six weeks have likely been received and are being processed. You may contact us regarding your application status after this processing period. If you have not already done so, please submit the following application materials:

-Passport verification.   

International students recommended for admission are required to submit their passport verification in order to be issued an I-20. While this document is not required for your application to be reviewed, we highly recommend that you submit them as soon as possible.  That way, if you are recommended for admission, we can issue your I-20 without delay for your visa procedures. Please note, international students who are recommended for admission must also submit their statement of intent in order to be issued an I-20.

Your passport verification must be a copy of the first two pages of your passport. For more information, visit the USC Graduate Admission Financial Support website at http://www.usc.edu/admission/graduate/international/financialsupport.html, and refer to the "Guidelines for Submitting Proof of Financial Support".

Send your financial documents as an email attachment in PDF or JPEG format (10 MB limit) to usci20@usc.edu OR as a fax to (213) 821-3725. Your 10-digit USC ID must be clearly written on all documents.

   

Please note the following:

-Include your USC ID with any submitted application materials and correspondence.

-Application materials submitted within the past six weeks have likely been received and are being processed. You may contact us regarding your application status after this processing period.

-Admission decisions are issued throughout the review cycle for complete applications submitted by the application deadline. The date you submitted your application does not determine the date your admission decision will be issued.

-Your official decision notification will be disclosed via postal mail. If your contact information changes, please let us know as soon as possible.

我还没有办护照，而且我觉得跟录取没关系就没着急办，现在想起来有点着急。
我想是一定要护照才能材料完全吗？

The passport is not required for the evaluation of your file. However, we still recommend you submit your passport as soon as possible to prevent processing delays during the busy application season.

我12.15提交的，大概1.15材料齐了，也不知道什么状况啊。。。

我比你早一个月的样子，那时候应该人没有那么多所以就代我处理了，表着急哈
