Dr. Xiangcheng Sun in the Department of Chemical Engineering at RIT is seeking highly motivated graduate students (1-2 Ph.D. and 2-3 Master students), preferred starting from Fall, 2023. Ph.D. candidates will be provided with financial support (including ~ $50K tuition and ~ $32K stipend annually) throughout their studies. The PhD candidates should have a B.S. or M.S. (preferred) degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering or closed-related field. Candidates with background/experience in following areas are highly encouraged to apply: materials development and preparation, organic synthesis, sensing, catalysis, spectroscopy, optical microscope and Matlab.          Dr. Sun obtained his doctoral degree from the University of Connecticut, and conducted postdoctoral research at Cornell University and University of California, Santa Barbara. He joined the Chemical Engineering Department at RIT as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Fall 2021 and recently received the prestigious ACS PRF Doctoral New Investigator (DNI) Award. Dr. Sun's research focuses on developing novel fluorogenic reactions, investigating the catalytic reactions at single-molecule level, and understanding the catalytic reaction mechanisms via single-molecule approach. He also works on the development of fluorescent nanomaterials and organic dyes for chemo-sensing and bio-sensing. Optical properties in both ensemble and single-molecule levels are studied.
         Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is in Rochester, the New York metropolitan area (the 3rd largest city in New York State). It was founded in 1829, the second oldest private technological university in America, and the tenth largest private university in the country.
