I strongly SUPPORT the proposal of STEM OPT extension.
Indeed, they are people from other countries. But is this a good idea that kick them out after  making so much efforts to this country?
They are the ones who help American citizens build thousands miles of railway line no matter summer of winter during 1860S; they are the ones who staying at offices and in front of radioactivity monitors all day long in order to get the code done. they are the reasons why many American companies like Google become more competitive in this world.
The stronger a country is, the more job positions will be applied.This is a positive circle.
STEM are the fields that natives do not like or the natives are not good at it. It is of vital importance that building a prospective and competitive country. Why do not us give more them chances?  Why do not us give more chances to United States?

I strongly support the new OPT extension rule. The new rule would attract more talents to contribute to the economic growth of the US as well as a significant drop in the unemployment rate for US citizens. It is a win-win situation for many graduate schools, local businesses, and local residences. I am from China and I live an urban area, Hoboken NJ. Many international students come to the states for post-graduate education because of the education quality as well as the OPT rule. Spending two or more years in the states would provide them the opportunity to practice what they learned in a top-tier company and gain valuable experience for their career. Even though the quality of high-level education matters a lot for the students, the potential of gaining oversea working experience is even more attractive to them. During their study, the tuition they paid help the growth of the graduate schools, which is a large potion of the income of many US private colleges. With the considerable increased income, the graduate schools can largely extend their financial supports to undergraduate students, most of which are US citizens in necessary of good financial supports. During their two or more years in the states, they help the growth of the local businesses and financially benefit the local residences. Most of the international students come from middle-class families. They buy local goods and enjoy local restaurants. When they stay in the states, their family come to visit them and spend a considerable amount of money buying products from the states. I can easily find a lot of international students in businesses at Hoboken. They are mostly well educated and post no-threat to local safety. Local residences enjoy being neighbors with them. Real-estates companies and private house owners enjoy being their lords because they paid their rent on time every time. The new OPT extension rule is absolutely attractive to the potential international students. With more students to the states for study, they help the graduate schools to support more American kids to go to the colleges, they help the local business grow and hire more americans and they directly help the local residences increase their incomes. This is an obvious win-win strategy for american people in both short and long term.

I abusolutely SUPPORT the proposal and we NEED the talent to work for our country!!!  

Firstly, the international students are making huge contributions to our country. They must  be the most intelligent people to pursue higher education in U.S. from other countries. Why should we reject such a huge opportunity to hire them to make contribution to us?

Secondly, the international student come for education, I think they should have the right to have optional practical training for a temporary time (eg. 1-3 years) after graduate. Otherwise, its' meaningless for them to pursue higher education form another country where the language and culture are totally different from their original country.

They should have the OPT to get training as our employees to make great contribution to our industry world. Though some of us feel bad to let them being citizens, and they said"If so, being a citizen worth nothing at all", but that's the "Survival of the fittest"!!!!

We are not going to have a strong country without top intelligent talent!!!! I support the OPT 24 months extension!!!!

I can't think of any solid reason why some people are against this OPT extension rule.
If the rule got vacated, it is easily foreseeable that:
1. Many US companies will lose qualified employees. I don't think they are going to lower the bar to achieve some employee number. Instead, they are more likely to outsource the jobs to some foreign companies for lower cost. Worse still, since these companies are not only competing against the American local companies, but also the companies worldwide, losing such employees will weaken competitiveness seriously, causing a shrink in job positions. This is also true when speaking of the whole US economy.
2. It will become less attractive for international students to have education in US. The education here is famous for its high reputation and the practical training. As a whole, the education should be the combination of knowledge teaching and skill training. A lot of international students here value the working experience very much for their future career development when they go back to their own countries. Less students means less education earnings, less related job opportunities, and less people contributing to the researches.

On the contrary, everyone can benefit from the rule:
1. For American citizens.
Let's see where the competition happens. As this rule is restricted in STEM, most qualified students are in high tech industry, meaning that it will have little impact on the most employees in other areas. The prosperity in high tech will definitely benefit other industries, bringing more job opportunities for Americans. Even in high tech industry, the competition is not decided by the international students, but the worldwide high tech market, let alone the small number of qualified international students compared to the total employee number.
2. For companies.
They have longer time to select the right person to hire.
3. For qualified international students.
They can have more practical training, and accumulate working experience for their future career.

While I do have some suggestion:
It would be great if the applicable scope can be expanded to some other majors in addition to STEM. On the other hand, more strict check should be implemented against the companies E-verify qualification.
