I do support the proposal for the new 24 month-extension of STEM OPT.

First and foremost, the great educational resources and good job/intern opportunities are the main factors attracting great students around the world. These students are also great economy contributors to this country while completing their degrees. Moreover, those international students are also continuingly making great contributions after their graduation. Many of them also joined many startups which increase a great deal of job positions for the local people. Without such opportunities for those international students, I don't think the number of international students will stay the same in future. In other words, this country will definitely lose a great number of its own economy contributors.

Furthermore, some people fear that international students will make the job competition more fierce in the future. However, I do believe that it is the competition that makes this country prosperous as she is today. Competition is the key reason that makes an elite a elite. We can never lock ourselves up just because of the competition. This is the worldwide trend. We have to alert our children and help them to be more competitive in the future. Only in this way can our children learn how to work hard and enjoy the happiness that they fight for.

Finally, I think some people who quote the so-called "protection for citizens" are just making nonsense. I believe this is the biggest fight against American US born citizens! As mentioned above, without a good environment, the leadering role of our IT industry can no longer maintained. In other words, lots of people will definitely lose their jobs in the future! As we all know, IT industry is and will continuingly be the most important factor that makes a great country in this century. This era needs those talents. Like China, India, and other countries, they are also making efforts to attract these talented people back, even Americans.

Discontinuing F1/OPT will be a disaster not only to America's talent pool but also to the education system, where billions of income have been contributed by international students. Countries in Europe and Australia could have replaced our advantage in attracting foreign students and offering them opportunities to work in the STEM fields, for which we could lose billions of revenues in schools, business, real estate, etc. Once the cycle of foreign talents, funds and money leaving America has formed, more permanent jobs could have lost as compared to temporary OPT roles.

像我这个平时不说话只看帖的都已经上去水了一帖，为了留学大军的利益各尽其力吧！
1. 没有OPT延期美国就没有那么attractive了。
2. 美国需要竞争而不是排斥竞争。

I strongly SUPPORT the new OPT rule.
As a potential student in the U.S, the U.S would become less attractive if we lose the OPT extension. Having been studying in a top-notch university in my home country, I have the opportunities to pursue further education all over the world. The U.S interests me most because the OPT extension provides me enough time for professional training in big IT companies. Without the OPT extension, I would not have enough time to get enough working experiences that qualify me a professional engineer. Simply one year is far from enough for a nice project in the IT industry. If I was sent home immediately after getting my degree, why would I bother investing huge money in studying in the U.S? I want to be become a professional engineer that work in the industry field, not a professor that stay in the academia. And to be frank, the degree will not guarantee me anything, only the working experience does.
It is disappointing that some commenters argued that the international students had brought too much competition. Everybody is clear that the job market needs competition to ensure the quality of the employees. The citizens should go sharpen their professional skills if they find it hard to land for a job in the IT industry, instead of trying to keep international talents out of their countries. Please do not try to limit the U.S companies to its "own" companies because a prosperous economy needs diversity in its working labors. And I think that the success of the U.S owed a large part to its friendly policies towards talents from all over the world.
Hope more people support this great rule.
