Researcher/PhD StudentThe Department of Electrical Energy Engineering (from 1st January 2013 Department of Electrical Engineering) has at present seven Professors and 60 members of staff.
Consolidated research on Smart Grids is one of our main focus areas, with almost two thirds of the research staff working in this area. Smart Grids research in the Department is amongst one of the best developed globally, having its origin in the many years’ expertise in the department in electrical distribution networks and automation, as well as newer areas of global expertise such as grid-connected solar systems, FACTS and VSC-HVDC transmission and distribution systems.

[tr][td]Job description:[/td][td]This is a challenging programme of research in the subject of Selective Harmonic Elimination (SHE) in Power Systems with particular reference to three-level power electronic converters of the kind used in PV and wind turbine applications.
The research requires the selected person to:
(i) develop a deep understanding of the physical phenomena associated with this kind of technology;
(ii) develop reliable, efficient and scalable SHE algorithms suitable for implementation in an advanced micro-processor environment;
(iii) conduct comprehensive testing of the most promising SHE algorithms in a laboratory inverter and in an actual PV installation.[/td][/tr]
[tr][td]Requirements:[/td][td]The successful applicant is required to hold an MSc degree in Electrical Engineering from a reputed university.
MSc thesis in an area closely connected with power system harmonics monitoring, modelling and simulation would be a decisive advantage.
A good command of the English language is mandatory.
The applicant must have the motivation to succeed in pursuing the doctoral degree and to start an independent research career at the international level.
