This role is within our Consumer Commercial Digital Products (CCDP) team, which is using digital technology to reinvent the experience of becoming a Volvo customer. Job Purpose:

As a core member of our backend engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and creating data model, service APIs and more to support new consumer applications that reach Volvo’s customers. You should have start-up experience where you had quickly developed prototypes and catalysed product development in a fast paced, fluid environment. You are experienced with agile development and a champion of software development best practices.

This position will report to the Manager of Engineering for the CCDP and is located in Volvo’s new Mountain View, CA Software Technology Center.

Required Skills

• Experience designing and building production-level web applications
• Strong analytical thinking and creative problem solving skills
• Knowledge of backend development, including data models, backend services, complex business logic
• Extensive coding experience with Java and backend framework
• Experience creating and using REST APIs
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or other major cloud providers and containerization
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and associated tools
  

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field, Master’s preferred
• Minimum 2 years work experience as a software engineer
• Expertise in and experience developing consumer-facing products
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and associated tools (Jira)
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• A passion for cars and developments in the auto industry
• Strong understanding of additional languages such as Python, Ruby, Scala
• Experience in JavaScript, ES6, functional programming
• Understanding of CMS systems, such as Drupal or Sitecore
• Understanding of Microsoft .NET and Azure technologies
• Experience monitoring and operating  production-level service
