全局:
All high school students should take acourse in basic economics.
The statement suggests that basic economycourse should be in the list of learning courses of high school students due tothe importance of economics in our daily life, from buying vegetables and meatsin supermarket, to investment of stocks. This recommendation bases on the idealassumption that all high school students would benefit a lot from learning economics, but actually, can this recommendation really be implemented? I do not agreewith the statement for the following reasons.
First, not all of the students are fit forlearning economy. We admit that learning economics do have some positive effecton high school students, for example, it gets students familiar with theoperation of business, bank and the circulation of currency, which would leadsome prospective students to choose economy as their major in the future. Butnot all of the high school students are interested in economy. As we all awarethat economy is deeply related to math, for those students who dislike math ormore interested in history or art, they would easily get bored and feeltortured when learning math equations and calculating economic issues.
Second, even we concede that taking economyclass would not be a burden for students and will bring benefits for them, itis still a doubt for us to consider that, since economy is a professional fieldin academic research, could all of the high schools provide qualified economycourses for their students? Maybe high schools in the big cities with famousuniversities could hire some professors to teach courses of basic economics, but for those in rural areas, they may not have the possibility to invite or hireteachers who major in economy. Therefore, this suggestion is only available fora part of high schools.
Moreover, providing economy courses tostudents would bring great burden on schools. If the economy class reallybecomes a fundamental course of high school, like math, geography and history, all of the high schools should be able to hire enough teachers to teach for thewhole school. However, there is no specific program of training economyteachers for high schools. High schools could only hire professors inuniversities in this situation, while there are less than 20 professorsavailable in average at a university, despite the condition that professors arebusy with university affairs. Thus, it is clear that hiring professors would bevery difficult and a great expense for high schools.
From these three aspects, asking all of thehigh school students to take a course in basic economics provide more negativeinfluence than benefits. Therefore, I can hardly agree with the statement oftaking economy class.
