Which way do you prefer to improve your health? Doing exercise, eating healthy or decrease the pressure in your life? 三选一
One of the most pressing issues in our time is the overall decreased health conditions of people. With the progression of our society, individual’s health, sadly, has deteriorated substantially. Meanwhile, an increasing number of people begin to put a premium on their health. Yet when it comes to the question which is the best way to keep fit, opinions vary from person to person. Personally speaking, there’s no better way to remain healthy than to work out regularly.
First of all, physical activities enable people to lose weight and keep slim. Undoubtedly, people in our modern society have been gaining weight, tremendously. According to one government report, obesity rates are soaring in the United Sates, with the incidence of obesity reaching one third of the population. Granted, popularity of fast food and mounting pressure nowadays has greatly contributed to the proliferating overweight population. Nevertheless, I maintain that the most significant contributing factor is individual’s unhealthy lifestyle, that is, the sedentary lifestyle. Think about ourselves. How many times do we drive to work when actually it only takes ten minutes' walking? How many times do we take the elevator when we only have to climb one floor of stairs? And how many times do we comfortably sit in the sofa watching television for the whole weekend?
Further, regular exercises also boost our immune system, thereby enhancing our ability to resist all kinds of infectious diseases such as flu and malaria. This point is best illustrated with the example of my classmate Kelly who was addicted to video games. She spent most of her free time in front of the computer and severe lack of exercise renders her vulnerable to many diseases because of her weak immune system. For example, she was always the first one to get flu when the season came. Worse yet, it took her much longer time to recover. However, since she fell in love with hockey last year, she plays hockey every weekend. It is apparent that she becomes much stronger and healthier now.
In addition, physical exercises can help individuals release their stress and prevent them from psychological disorders. For one thing, doing exercises will keep us from thinking about the pressure in our life. For instance, when we play basketball games, we will concentrate on the game and forget all the annoying and disturbing things in our life. For the other thing, physical activities can calm the nerves and restore the soul and there seems to have plenty of research findings to support this. Recently, scientists found that our body can release a hormone that directly stimulates our nerves and makes us feel exhilarated. They call this hormone “happy factor” because of the euphoric feelings they bring about after a workout.
Taking into account of all these factors, we can reach the conclusion that regular exercise is a more desirable way for us to get in shape. Actually, I contend that for the sake of our health, everyone would be well-advised to take exercises frequently.
