Thank you, man. I connect you in the linkedin. Do you live in the school-housing. I am considering which housing should I gonna in. There are Bard Hall, Georgian, Towers 1,2,3,  154 Haven and 390 Fort Washington. Which housing did you prefer?

This consideration is kind of smart. Large amount of students can really burden the teaching staff. The tuition should not be the only source to support the development of the department.

For 1st question, I think you need to define "difficult" first.

For 2nd question, there is no such mechanism. No one did that in the past years. But I guess they don't mind adding a seat for the PhD inference exam if you demonstrate your potential. The exam is non-trivial considering they failed 3/4 of the candidates for some year according to a staff member here. PhD students take the qualify after 1 term of measure-theoretic probability theory and 1 year of inference sequence beyond MS-level inference (based on Casella & Berger). Even some faculty members here think it is really challenging. If you pass, I believe they will value that greatly.

非常感谢答复！我担心本系的ms学生会受到哥大硕士整体reputation（在网路上哥大经常被黑）的影响，而在继续申请phd的过程中处于劣势？

Although there is big variance in the biostats PhD programs, the biostats MS programs basically teach the same things though might be going at different paces. One's placement generally depends on one's own competitiveness according to an AP graduating from Hopkins.   
Of course, rec letters matter a lot. You have the chance to impress the big guys who have established their fames in the field if you are in a top program like UW or Hopkins. Here at Columbia, young tenure-track assistant professors and associate professors at middle-age are doing great but they are not that famous yet.
