一些brown生统的基本情况

楼主昨天收到brown生统的推荐录取 因为了解不多 于是便发邮件给学长学姐们问问情况 这里贴出一个比较好的回复 楼主主要问了系里的情况 好不好就业和一些基本生活信息 希望对大家有用

Dept of Biostatistics in Brown University belongs to School of Public Health. This is a pretty new program (no more than 10 yrs I think). Therefore, it is very hard to evaluate the program against similar programs in other universities.

It depends on what kind of jobs you want. It is said there are more stats-related job opportunities on the East Coast of the U.S. than on the West Coast. Also, Texas is another place that many Chinese go for a job. On the other hand, competitive students graduate every year from all these good universities around, which makes the job market pretty occupied. Anyway, my suggestion is if you have a stronger offer from a dept. with a higher rank, take that.

As for Chinese handbook, I am not quite sure. But I guess you can search Google or Baidu with keywords "Brown CSSA". You should find the official Brown CSSA website with some guidance about the campus as well as surrounding areas.

On tuition: In two years, MS students are required to take 8 courses plus a thesis credit (9 credits in total). Each credit is worth ~$5,000. You can do the math. In addition, international students have to pay medical insurance. This varies over insurance companies, but should be around ~$1,000-$3,000 per year, I think. Also, there are some other fees like recreation fees etc, but shouldn't exceed $1,000 per year.

On living expenses: Usually rent is ~$800-1,800 per month, depending on the location and the quality of the apt/house. Utilities might not be included, <$100 in summer and ~$200 in winter. Often times students live together in the same house/apt to share the rent and utilities. Similarly, students often share the same family plan of cell phones and the costs depend on what plan they use and how many ppl in the plan. Probably ~$30-70 per month.

同ms 貌似论坛上已经有几个有消息了 因为是rolling吧 但都不是正式的 还得等几天 如果你拿到会去吗

目前一个ad都没有 面临失学啊QWQ 如果有的话会咨询一下在那边的学姐 再看看

研院给的录取里写的是一年总计预计要￥67，000

可以算吧 基本是tuition waive
