关于环境方向，一位前辈的话~

以下的话摘自某在米国多年的环境方向的童鞋的话，希望对以后的朋友们有帮助：

my two cents in choosing offers: for masters, choose traditionally strong engineering schools with high major ranking, e.g. UIUC, purdue, Umich, Stanford, Gatech, etc... for phds, major ranking doesn't matter at all, choose a strong advisor in an interesting field, preferable in well-known schools.

ivy leagues schools are great for phds, even being ranked low in engineering.i saw people saying that UIUC is better than harvard that's absolutely wrong

let me tell you how the USNEWS rankings are created. for major rankings, it's solely based on surveys to the department chairs around US,so basically it's totally subjective opinion about the overall strength of the department;but the overall ranking for the engineering school is more reliable,as it has a majority of objective factors...only about 20% subjective opinions

because ranking is highly dependent on size,the UIUC CEE department is larger than the entire engineering school of Yale or Harvard,but a professor at Yale may have more citation than the entire environmental program at UIUC

strong publications, established advisor, and strong recommendations,these will get you interviews,but then you also need to speak decent english to get the job

master找工作跟publication一点关系都没有 跟导师也没啥关系 找个好点的系基本就可以 最好是传统工程院校

I want to correct what I just have said: when I gave suggestions on choosing offers for MS. vs Ph.D,  I should have said "career in industry" vs. "career in academia".  If you wanna do PhD after MS, you should mainly look for a good master thesis advisor.  If you are doing a PhD but want to go to industry (in this field), then schools like UIUC or Purdue are probably better than Harvard or Yale.

放眼望去，做water resource 和environmental site assessment挺多。真正水处理的好像不是很多。

确实困难。
最近一直在申请环境方面的工作，都杳无音讯……和我同期毕业的美国同学，靠NETWORK就进入了很好的环境公司……
表示现在很伤心和迷茫

我美本college读的environmental studies，现在在愁找工作的问题呢……感觉我学的和社会上需要的有些出入……都不知道是不是environmental studies完全没用。
