转自blind,谷歌一开始就不是什么dreamland:
Been at Google for >12 years now and I'm honestly confused about the amount of posts portraying the company as some sort of corporate Disneyland before the layoffs or Ruth.. ----
Throughout the years I've witnessed:
- Multiple directors openly sharing porn content on Groups
- A manager slapping a reportee across the face during a HH
- A "Head of" sexually harassing multiple ICs across the office for YEARS without consequence. .и
- An IC getting morally harassed for months on end until the day he got fired, which included a walk of shame being escorted by HR/security
- A director calling an IC a "dumbass" in the middle of the office, dude got reported to HR/compliance by multiple people. IC got fired a few months later, director is still at Google to this day with a much larger scope
- A "Head of" openly flirting with a reportee, who went on to become a manager soon after (shocker)

Google has been a pretty standard corporate hell for as long as I can remember. Sure the walls are colorful and there's free food, but this whole idea that it was a dreamland is beyond my understanding. I always saw it as just another corporatation with a decent pay.
Add to that the whole perf/Grad joke, which is obviously meant to hinder career development as opposed to being a growth tool. I find it hilarious that some folks here are mad at co-workers who aren't motivated to work hard when the company has a system in place designed to reward resting and vesting.
All you have to do is not f*** up at your job and you get promoted to the next level after 2.5/3 years as long as there's scope. Working hard MIGHT speed that up by 6 months or so at the cost of your WLB, but def not worth it. The only way you can really ignite your progress is by sucking some high level up, which doesn't require hard work but rather knowing how to navigate corporate politics.
I've seen folks handling 25%+ of the volume of a team of 30+ ICs getting a CME, while professional coasters who send pretty emails but work 4hs/week get promoted. There's absolutely ZERO incentives to work hard as discretionary funds are a joke, even if you invent the new Gmail all you'll get is an O, a pat on the back and a ~10% boost on your annual TC at most. Good luck keeping up to your new level of expectations when you try to go for promo a whole year from now.
Obviously the exec team is aware, hence why there's a quota for SCIs now and getting a SCI/MI feels like having a huge target on your back. Stressing people out is the only way to get folks to work extra hard in this idiotic system.
Want my tip to succeed at Google? Don't break anything, have a good relationship with your manager, always take any piece of feedback with a positive attitude, and just do the bare minimum of what's required from you until you get to the 2/2.5 year mark at your current level. At that point try to get involved in a project with a larger scope, overcommunicate the shit out of it to all senior managers/directors on your org in a way that makes THEM look good, get promoted, rinse and repeat.
Working super hard before you're close to promo it's just a waste of time/effort and will raise the bar of what's expected of you, plus the monetary incentive is basically non-existant. Let's stop bootlicking billionaire execs, collect our money and focus on living our lives.

升职那段太真实。 就是排队拿L+1 scope的project。 -baidu 1point3acres
