cpt from day 1 will affect green card. But you probably can wait 3 weeks and then start cpt if it is graduate program. Because in cpt regulations it has an exception rule for graduate that they can participate cpt in first semester if it is a request from the program. You can see it in 214.2(f)(10)(i)

it's just common sense you have to be full time student for one academic year to be eligible for cpt.

是的，问题就是你怎么证明“it is a request from the program”。一般来说，如果校方配合一下出个证明的话，移民局也就信了，但是如果突然冒出来几千上万的学生都这么搞，移民局要细查，那我觉得学校也证明不了为什么这个实习是必须的。

并不是为了一点点钱啦，是为了不丢掉现在的工作。。。找个工作不容易呀。。。

I remembered either ICE or USCIS mentioned in the cpt regulations that something about cpt is an integral part of course blablabla and ICE itself said a way to identify that is earning credit for cpt. I forget where it comes but I am remember clearly it is from an official website.

Anyway, cpt is risky. I saw on Murfy law firm forum a couple rfes because of cpt to h1b. They will require applicant to provide documents about the necessity to join cpt from day. So it is best that students stay out of cpt from day1. Another issue is the school. Check whether school is accredited and SEVP Certified. Don't go to school that is not accredited. Third thing, the most frequent rfe from my friends who is in same situation is their job is not consistent with their major. So it is very important to choose a fairly relative major when you apply cpts.
