I was pretty busy for the last 2 weeks and didn't have a chance to finish part 2.  In my first reply, I suggested trying to convince TL to delay the e2e work.  It would be a good opportunity to practice communication skills (soft skills).

Let's assume the e2e tasks have to be done now, and you don't have QA resources to work on it.  You are also the most junior engineer in the scrum team.  What can you do?  How will it help you build your resume, and increase visibility?. .и

  • Please take initiatives to take some tasks sfor e2e during sprint planning.  The reason is you know somebody (most likely you) needs to do it anyway.
  • Make it clear that the team member should rotate on testing to resolve SPOF issue. If only 1 engineer does testing, what if he is on vacation or leave?  Also you can mention that you are willing to share the knowledge on e2e, and you are available to help.  If you are comfortable, you can also schedule a training session to help team members ramp up with e2e.
  • Talk your TL privately.  Ask him if he can do some testing during next sprint.  Let him know, if he does some testing, no other team members will refuse to test since TL already does it.  This is called lead by example.  Also emphasizie you support him, and would like to help him deliver projects successfully.
  • Lastly, during 1-on-1, let your manager know how you help other team members, and how you resolve lack of QA issues by promoting developers to do it.  Something like, you take the initiatives to do test, and train others too.  Note that, you have 2 accomplishments:  help deliver project on time by voluteering on testing (you have the sense of ownership), and train other engineers on how to use e2e framework.  You can list them as your accomplishments during mid-year review or end-year review.  It also demonstrates you are an effective player too. Your manager might also use your case as an example on how his team resolve QA shortage issues.  You actually help the manager resolve resources issue.  This is also called manage up (you help your manager make his job easier).

It will definitely help you build your resume too.  Something like an effective team player who helps and trains other team members on new framework.
If you were asked some questions related to team work during interview, you now have a story to tell:  your sense of ownership, you took initiatives on testing since nobody wanted to do it, and how you trained others on e2e framework and shared domain knowledges within the team. With your help, your team successfully delivered the project on time, and didn't ask for additional QA resources.

Basically, every coin has two sides.  It depends on how you view it, and leverage it.  Hopefully, my followup will shed some light on you.
