哈哈，你说对了。没有学校不用钱给phd开工资，没有学校的资金来源不靠学费。

Frankly speaking, your GPA and GRE are not good enough; so that's why the other UC universities didn't admit you.
You may have some other strong background, such as self finance support and lab / work experience, etc.

The truth is that you pay tuition as MS student, but PHD doesn't.

你能不能具体说说这个 “So that's why” 的理由或者信息来源？即，有什么地方提到过是为了给博士发工资所以招很多master来赚学费？公开来源也好，你的内幕消息也好。

You should figue it out how many PHD and MS in your dept..

I just want to tell you that many universities offer funding to CS MS students.
But there is not way for USC Ms student. You need to pay tuition by yourself. Right?
Anyhow it's easy for a USC Graduate student to find a job as USC still has very good reputation. It's a very good school! This is for sure.

有多少自费master，有多少有奖学金的phd，其他学校给多少学cs的master奖学金，以及具体到我是否自负学费，都和你最开始抛出的观点『I was told that USC uses the tuition from MS to cover PHD.
So that's why it admits so many MS.』完全无关。因为PhD的奖学金只是学校开支中极小的一部分，master的学费也是学校收入中极小的一部分。认为招很多自费master是为了给phd开工资，没有任何站得住脚的理由。这和usc的研究生好不好找工作，和reputation好不好也没有关系。

I don't want to argue with you.
Just think it in a logic way, why USC admits so many MS students without offering the funding?
Besides none of MS students got the tuition remission.

我前面列了收学费的可能用途啊，盖楼，招老师，建实验室。你从头到尾都没给过任何理由证明是为了给博士开工资。你给点逻辑瞧瞧？
既然你一直说none，那我就告诉你好了，2010fall去usc念ee master的大陆人中有两个都是拿的fellowship。对了我说的是纯master项目，不是stanford那种虽说是申phd但先发个带两年钱的master。

明明是都讲着中文的地儿大片地发着满是语法错误的英语…= =…

怎么现在去USC读EE的都看准VLSI。。。现在这两年读在USC读VLSI的人数成指数上升啊。。。但是工作机会并没有增加，而且VLSI并没有像别人说的那么好找工作，劝大家谨慎选专业啊。。。。。一名USC VLSI就要研2的苦逼的大实话。。
